At AtkinsRéalis, collaboration is more than just a value; it’s how we work, grow, and innovate.
Our global network of experts supports one another to deliver some of the world’s most transformative infrastructure projects.
For Anisa, an Associate Director based in Ireland, this collaborative culture has shaped every stage of her journey.
Here, Anisa shares how she’s forging a rewarding career in structural engineering, pushing boundaries, building with purpose, and helping shape a more inclusive and sustainable future.

Global perspectives, local impact: Anisa’s journey to AtkinsRéalis Ireland
Anisa’s route into the industry reflects the very nature of engineering itself: complex, precise, and powered by resilience.
After completing a BSc in Civil Engineering in Albania and an MSc in Structural Engineering in Albania, she gained experience working in Malta before relocating to Ireland, where she became Chartered through Engineers Ireland whilst working at AtkinsRéalis.
“Living and working in different countries has made me understand how diversity brings excellence,” she says. “It’s vital in structural engineering, where problem-solving thrives on new perspectives and collaborative thinking.”
Anisa’s diverse experience, both geographically and professionally, reflects the unique perspectives and backgrounds that drive our most innovative, sustainable, and inclusive solutions.
Guided by mentors, driven by purpose
Structural engineering has historically been male-dominated, but Anisa is passionate about helping change that.
At AtkinsRéalis Ireland, she’s part of a diverse, supportive team that actively uplifts one another, particularly through mentorship.
“Maintaining confidence in my abilities, focusing on my goals, and pushing myself to learn have been key. I’ve had great mentors, both formally and informally, who helped me believe in myself and find my voice in the industry,” she says.
Today, Anisa gives back by mentoring the next generation. Alongside colleagues and leaders at AtkinsRéalis, she regularly visits schools to speak with young girls about careers in STEM.
“It’s amazing to see that they no longer view engineering as a field just for men; that shift is happening.”
Engineering a better future, together
Anisa’s projects span from residential and healthcare facilities to a refugee accommodation centre in Albania commissioned by the UNHCR. “Every project is a chance to make a tangible difference in people’s lives,” she explains.
“We also work on airport buildings and aprons, which are a niche and exciting space. These kinds of projects are where structural engineering becomes truly multidisciplinary, and that’s where our global network becomes so valuable.”
Innovation, connection, and purpose: Engineering the Future at AtkinsRéalis Ireland
AtkinsRéalis Ireland offers more than just a place to work, it’s a global community where engineers are empowered to innovate, share knowledge, and lead with purpose.
Anisa is part of a culture that connects expertise across borders through tools like the Skills Trawler, enabling smarter, more sustainable solutions.
With a sharp focus on modular construction, circular economy practices, and the potential of AI, Anisa is excited about how technology will continue to shape the future of structural engineering. Anisa expands more on the importance of diversity in structural engineering in this blog.
Join a team redefining structural engineering in Ireland
