We are looking for a Junior Mechanical Engineer in Training to join our Vancouver, BC team. The Mechanical Engineer-in-Training will report to the Mechanical department Head for Dams and Hydropower projects.

Your role within the team:

• Provide mechanical and equipment engineering support with the preparation of technical deliverables including technical specifications, test procedures, commissioning plans and design calculations for hydropower plant mechanical components and systems.
• Perform conceptual and detail design activities for mechanical systems which includes flow sheets, detail drawings, equipment arrangement/layouts as well as sizing and selection of mechanical components related to hydroelectric power plants.
• Coordinating large scale projects of considerable technical and commercial complexity.
• Supporting manufacturing, assembly, testing and commissioning tasks.
• Define project work scope, monitoring and reporting project progress and communicating with clients.
• Review and approve supplier’s design documents to fabricate the required component within the applicable design requirements.
• Work in accordance with applicable codes, standards, regulations, client and company procedures.
• Assist in engineering quotation and cost estimate.
• Provide calculation of airflow system pressure, flow and power requirements as well as fresh air, cooling and heat recovery requirements.
• Provide Calculation of lifting capacities, material handling system loading, hoist and crane loads.
• Assist in preparation of general arrangement drawings, piping isometrics, bill of materials, line lists, valve lists, equipment and instrumentation lists.
• Provide calculation for hydromechanical equipment and large hydraulic valves.

The ideal candidate:

• You have an under-graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and are available for full-time work.
• Experience with Finite Element and CFD modeling is beneficial but not a requirement.
• Previous work experience in summer or Co-Op work terms in a role working with standard engineering methods, technologies and computerized design techniques is an asset but not a requirement.
• Demonstrated experience and expertise in at least one of the following areas is an asset but not a requirement: hydroelectric and pumped storage hydro plants, HVAC design for substations, piping systems; materials handling systems, hydromechanical equipment and large hydraulic valves.
• You are registered or are eligible for registration as an Engineer in Training in the province of British Columbia.

• Solid Works Experience is beneficial but not a requirement.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Demonstrated excellent written and oral English communication skills.
