Role Summary

We are now seeking a Mechanical Engineer / Senior Mechanical Engineer to join SNC-Lavalin’s highly successful national Rolling Stock team based from our Brisbane office. You will play a pivotal role organising and planning the technical aspects of operational projects including the design and preparation of user requirement specifications, material and component specifications and safety in design requirements.
 

With ongoing remits on major projects including Cross River Rail, Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail and Auckland Light Rail, with support provided by rail operations capability throughout SNC-Lavalin Atkins globally, there has never been a better time to join our expanding Rail team.

How you will contribute:

  • Organise and plan the technical aspects of operational projects for the enterprise including the design and preparation of user requirement specifications, material and component specifications, safety in design requirements for new and altered works 

  • Develop and coordinate technical aspects and strategies for new technology and techniques applicable to mechanical systems and networks 

  • Design, checking and auditing of mechanical systems submitted by design team and or external providers 

  • Organise and prepare the associated documentation, user requirements, system requirements, installation procedures, verification and validation, testing and commissioning, asset handover, type approval and maintenance procedures for mechanical systems 

  • Prepare responses to 'Requests for Tender' and other bidding opportunities

  • Develop strong client relationships and contribute to the development of the Rolling Stock team 

  • Support the professional development of less experienced consultants
     

Desired Skills, Experience and Capabilities

  • Mechanical Engineering degree with demonstrated experience in the rail industry

  • A proven work history when it comes to undertaking investigations, rolling stock testing, fault analysis, problem solving, trial modifications, rolling stock operation, reliability and maintenance and fault and failure interpretation and diagnostics 

  • High level of skill in developing and continuously improving maintenance processes, strategies, scopes of work and modifications to improve rolling stock safety, performance, reliability and cost 

  • Experience in non-rolling stock systems would be advantageous (trucks, reach stackers, ship loaders etc.) 

  • High level of analytical and conceptual skills 

  • Natural collaborator with a passion for making a positive difference through what you deliver 

  • Demonstrated ability to engage, influence and negotiate with a range of stakeholders 

  • Ability to cover most rolling stock sub-systems, including verification, assessment and standards associated with those sub-systems.
