Due to ever expanding operational requirements, we have an immediate opening two Onshore Lifting Technicians, working at our Mount Pearl, Newfoundland, and Labrador office, reporting to the Technical Services Manager. The Lifting Technician(s) will report directly to the Technical Services Manager. The role will act as a key contributor to support lifting and hoisting relating inspections for all fixed hoists and cranes (monorail cranes, gantry cranes, etc.), loose lifting gear (chain falls, slings, hoists, trolleys, etc.), fixed lifting points (monorails, pad eyes etc.), fall protection and abseiling equipment, lifting hooks and blocks, wire ropes and

How will you contribute to the team?

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all personnel by using systems and methods of work that are, as far as is reasonably practicable, safe and without risk to health or the environment.
  • Ensure inspections are carried out in accordance with the requirements of CAPP Atlantic Canada, Safe Lifting Practice, ASME, DNV and Lloyds Register standards, and all Owner specific requirements.
  • Plan, develop and execute inspection activities for fixed equipment and loose equipment.
  • Support development and ongoing inputs to compliance matrixes showing regulatory requirements and development of associated work methods to meet regulatory and client changes.
  • Develop reports detailing the findings of inspection activities, interpret the inspection findings and make recommendations for remedial work and for future inspection scheduling.
  • Establish techniques for NDT and CWB proper examination of lifting equipment, ensuring strict adherence to safety regulations.
  • Set up, calibrate, and operate magnetic particle and liquid penetrant equipment
  • Carry out high quality, consistent and professional inspections produce and deliver inspection reports using best in class tools for on-site reporting and immediate client access.
  • Keep up to date with changes in relevant standards and legislation, acting as an advisor to on-site client representatives.
  • Verify that all equipment is maintained to an acceptable standard and is certified fit for purpose.
  • Fully utilize all operational and technical systems available ensuring accurate data is inputted and reflected.
  • Implement inspection and certification programs for lifting equipment,
  • Remain current with all applicable legislative requirements.

What will you contribute?

  • Candidates must have 5 – 7 years practical experience (continuous learning) in lifting inspection, testing and re-certification of cranes, fixed gear, and loose lifting equipment.
  • Completion of either a 2 or 3 year Industrial or Mechanical Diploma.
  • LEEA, CGSB MT and PT, with CWB Level 1 or 2 Certification are essential.
  • Certifications and experience in inspection of offshore containers will be considered as an asset.
  • Familiarity with CSA B167 inspection criteria would be considered an asset.
  • Overhead and Mobile crane inspection certification.
  • Fall protection inspection certification.
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant regulatory codes and standard.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting P&ID’s, isometric and structural drawings.
  • Proficient in the use all Microsoft software applications and SAP database experience.

Additional Information:

  • Must successfully complete a medical assessment, fitness for work.
  • The ability and willingness to continue with higher level professional training and development is an integral focus area. IRATA Rope Access certification would be an asset.
  • Pay rates are determined according to the regulations set by the collective agreements in place.
  • Terms of employment: Permanent position.
  • Work Schedule, 40-hour work week.
  • Travel 30-50% anticipated.
