SNC-Lavalin is growing rapidly in Australia with new project wins offering exciting opportunities to learn and develop.  Our regional business servicing the Australia & New Zealand markets is divided into three sectors: Consulting & Advisory, Program & Project management and Design & Engineering. We're looking to grow our teams in each area.

We have plans to expand our existing team of 120 talented individuals and are in search for experienced and agile engineers to join us in this exciting growth phase.

Role Summary

SNC-Lavalin’s Engineering Design business provides multidisciplinary engineering services and integrated solutions across a wide range of projects and markets. We are in search of a Senior Geotechnical Engineer based in our Sydney office, to support our portfolio of growing projects.

We are looking for someone with the right flare and ability that will help us develop and expand our geotechnical capability by building on the existing portfolio of our expanding, flexible and outward looking team that can tackle work across a broad spectrum of sectors. This is a fantastic opportunity to take a leading role in the ground engineering input to some challenging projects within the infrastructure and energy sectors and be a part of a fast-growing engineering team.
 

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage high quality geotechnical design input into a diverse range of infrastructure projects
  • Lead geotechnical design packages, taking responsibility for technical quality, program and delivery
  • Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams in Australia and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions
  • Analyse and prepare reports for projects relating to foundation design, slope stabilisation measures, excavation retention system, structural foundations, dams, and other geotechnical related projects.
  • A strong understanding in materials testing and scoping objectives to support geotechnical investigation and design recommendations.
  • Contribute to winning work by assisting with bid submissions, developing new business opportunities and growing client relationships
     

Qualifications & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or an equivalent
  • Proven geotechnical design experience and strong numerical/analytical capabilities.
  • 2D/3D Modelling experience using various geotechnical software packages (eg. PLAXIS, Slope/W, Wallap and the Rocscience suite)
  • Experience in rock mass classification and rock mechanics preferably in cavern and tunnelling projects is desired
  • Excellent report writing skills with the ability to self-check and produce accurate work
  • Excellent interpersonal and technical skills and the ability to lead geotechnical design teams, with good influencing, motivating and delegation skills.
  • Experience and understanding of the needs and approaches to the engineering consultancy and design markets, including relationships with clients, work planning and commercial management.
  • Engineering Chartership or working towards Chartership status
