SNC-Lavalin in Australia

SNC-Lavalin is growing rapidly in Australia with new project wins offering exciting opportunities to learn and develop. Our regional business servicing the Australia & New Zealand markets is divided into three sectors: Consulting & Advisory, Program & Project management and Design & Engineering. We're looking to grow our teams in each area.

We have plans to expand our existing team of 120 talented individuals and are in search for experienced and agile engineers to join us in this exciting growth phase.

Role Summary

SNC-Lavalin’s Engineering Design business provides multidisciplinary engineering services and integrated solutions across a wide range of projects and markets. We are in search of a Senior Structural Engineer based in our Sydney office, to support our portfolio of growing projects. This is a fantastic opportunity to take a leading role in the engineering input to some challenging projects within the infrastructure and energy sectors and be a part of a fast-growing engineering team. 

The successful applicant will be a Structural Engineer or Senior Structural Engineer with a degree in civil or structural engineering and hold or be close to holding chartered status with Engineer’s Australia.

Candidates should have the right flare and ability that will help us develop and expand our structural engineering capability by building on the existing portfolio of our expanding, flexible and outward looking team that can tackle work across a broad spectrum of sectors.

 Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Act as a key structural resource ensuring the provision of efficient, high quality structural engineering design

  • Lead/manage the design of Structural Engineering works across a range of projects, including RC, Steel, and external structures such as retaining walls.

  • Leading, managing and co-ordinating multi-disciplinary project teams to complete projects to meet client aspirations

  • Management of project programmes, budgets and overall quality

  • Provide leadership for our people ensuring successful management and development of engineers and technicians both in Australia and overseas

  • Contribute to the development of complex project proposals/cost estimates and participate in the process of securing new business opportunities or expanding the scope of existing projects.

Desired Skills, Experience and Capabilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.

  • Proven structural engineering design experience and strong numerical/analytical capabilities.

  • Experience in the design of common structural materials as well as a good understating of current design standards and working practices.

  • A natural problem solver with a desire to apply structural engineering principles across a range of project types.

  • Project Management - Experience and understanding of the needs and approaches to the engineering consultancy and design markets, including relationships with clients, work planning and commercial management.

  • Excellent report writing skills with the ability to self-check and produce accurate work

  • Excellent interpersonal and technical skills and the ability to develop and lead structural design teams.

  • Excellent communication skills and confidence to liaise with clients.

  • Good commercial track record in negotiating and running successful jobs.
