From figuring it out to making it count: Vishnu’s career journey

At AtkinsRéalis, we believe every career journey is unique — shaped by curiosity, courage, and the people who support us along the way. Vishnu’s path is one such story. From quietly managing systems behind the scenes to now leading HR operations across Asia, his journey reflects resilience, self-belief, and a deep commitment to people and purpose.

He’s grown through the ranks, embraced change, and led with heart all while staying grounded in who he is, both at work and beyond.

Here’s Vishnu’s story in his own words.

Where it all began

I joined AtkinsRéalis in July 2018 as part of the People Hub, supporting HR systems, onboarding, and lifecycle operations. It was a great way to step into the HR world and understand how things work behind the scenes.

Later, I moved into Regional HR Operations for India — diving into employee relations, HR policies, governance, and service delivery. It taught me the 'why' behind every process and helped build a strong foundation.

The big shift

Moving into HR Business Partnering was a bold but rewarding change. I supported corporate functions, which gave me a 360° view of how teams operate, what motivates people, and how trust is built.

My earlier experience in operations helped me connect strategy with execution. I started advising leaders with practical solutions grounded in firsthand understanding.

Now, in my current role managing HR Operations for Asia, I get to bring everything together — process orientation, strategic thinking, and a people-first approach.

Learning never stops

Each role pushed me to grow whether it was learning Workday workflows, driving service delivery, or navigating tough conversations as an HRBP. The move from operations to partnering was defining, and I’ve always stayed open to learning, which made every transition smoother.

Support that made a difference

My family has been my anchor helping me grow into bigger roles while balancing life outside work. Weekly football matches and spontaneous catchups with friends help me recharge.

I’ve also had amazing managers some gave me space to explore, others challenged me directly. But all of them believed in me. They encouraged, supported, and gave me room to fail and rise and that shaped who I am today.

Proud moments

Winning the Emerging Star Award in 2023 was a big highlight — a recognition of years of learning and effort.

I also completed a master’s in strategic management and a PG Certificate in HRM from XLRI, all while working full-time. Balancing both wasn’t easy, but it added depth to my HR approach.

Delivering the Welcome Address at the 2024 Excellence Awards was another memorable moment. But most of all, I’m proud that people trust me, in HR that’s everything.

Who I am beyond work

I come from a close-knit family of four — my parents and my elder sister and an even bigger extended family. Honestly, I’d choose a home celebration with them over a party with friends, any day.

I love football — playing it more than watching, though I do both. There’s nothing like the rush of being on the field, feeling the wind on your face, the adrenaline kicking in.

I have a passion for traveling and discovering new destinations. As a nature enthusiast, I find joy in the great outdoors and have a deep love for animals, particularly dogs.

My advice to everyone

If you’re just starting out be open. Take that new role, volunteer for that extra project, raise your hand. It’s okay if you don’t know how to do it yet you’ll figure it out if you commit yourself to the job & set high standards for your work.

Don’t stay in your comfort zone. That’s not where growth happens. You’ll never know your limit unless you test it and when you do test it with the right mindset, the right people around you, and a little bit of faith in yourself you’ll surprise yourself. Just like I did.
