Overview
This role sits within the Buildings & Places Business Unit of AtkinsRéalis, which is delivering an ambitious growth strategy focused on market expansion, portfolio diversification, and enhanced client service offerings. As part of this exciting period of growth, we require a driven and experienced Assistant Commercial Manager who can 'hit the ground running' and support Buildings & Places ambitious strategy. The individual will have previous commercial experience supporting engineering consulting or commercial contracts.
Joining the current commercial team, the successful applicant will support the team with a wide range of commercial tasks. You will be responsible for reviewing, drafting and negotiating a range of agreements including prime and subcontracts, NDAs, MOUs, and back-to-back subcontracts. You will also be responsible for supporting the commercial governance process for bids that fall within your remit and hold the wider business unit to account aligned to AtkinsRéalis approvals framework.
Location: The role can be based in any of our UK office locations.
Your role
- Analysis and negotiation of contract terms and conditions.
- Analysis and agreement of NDAs, MOUs, subcontracts.
- Reviewing and approving proposals, prime and sub– contracts, ensuring adherence to company governance requirements and procedures.
- Providing commercial support to bid teams, including supporting the development of the commercial elements of tender.
- Commercial risk identification, mitigation and management. Reviewing and approving call-off contracts under a wide variety of framework types.
- Providing commercial support throughout contract delivery.
- Input to approvals processes, attendance and input at bid and governance meetings.
- Supporting & training non-commercial staff in commercial and procurement issues.

About you
Essential criteria
- A degree in law/business studies/engineering/science/technology or similar at an equivalent qualification level.
- Experience in sales and procurement commercial management, willing to work in both fields.
- Ability to analyse, interpret and draft contractual wording with a strong attention to detail.
- Experience of negotiating contract terms with suppliers and/or clients.
- Interpersonal skills, the ability to develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines under pressure.
- Willingness to undertake continued skills development with a view to taking on additional responsibilities and wider business role.
- You will be well organised, commercially minded, enthusiastic and keen to learn, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- You will have a creative and pragmatic approach to problem solving.
- Hybrid working of home/remote working and office working 3 days a week across either our Bristol, Birmingham, Belfast, Leeds, Manchester, and/or our London offices.
Desirable criteria
- An awareness and understanding of contract law.
- Knowledge of contractual documents including NDAs, MOUs, teaming agreements, sub- and prime contracts used in a consulting environment.
- Knowledge of intellectual property rights and protection, including exploitation agreements, software licensing, reseller agreements.
- Knowledge of industry contracts including but not limited to JCT, NEC.
