Overview
Candu Energy Inc., an AtkinsRéalis company and the Canadian Commercial Corporation ("CCC"), a federal Crown corporation, have signed a contract with Nuclearelectrica S.A. (SNN) to provide engineering, technology and procurement of tooling and reactor components in support of the life extension of SNN's'Unit 1 CANDU® reactor at the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant in Romania. As the exclusive licensee of the Canadian-owned CANDU intellectual property portfolio and contributing its unique expertise to all aspects of CANDU technology, AtkinsRéalis is the only organization that has taken a leading role in all CANDU reactor life extension projects to date globally, including those successfully executed or underway in Asia, North America, and South America.
This expression of interest offers you a chance to be a part of our team and work alongside our experts in our Canadian and international offices as well as at client sites.
Reporting to the Manager of Retube Tooling – Common Tools, the Mechanical Engineer – Common Tooling would support multiple Refurbishment projects. The candidate will be responsible for developing and/or overseeing the conceptual and detailed design, manufacturing, testing, delivery and execution support of tooling systems.
At this time, this solicitation is for the following position, which may be changed to meet project requirements.
Your role
- Ensure all engineering work complies with applicable Engineering and Quality Assurance procedures.
- Maintain up-to-date training and qualification records; ensure all required certifications and training are completed on time.
- Prepare route sheets, engineering documentation deliverables for various nuclear tooling.
- Complete prioritized work requests on time.
- Tooling Technical Support:
- Implement tooling updates and modifications based on OPEX, design feedback, or lessons learned from previous units.
- Support Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) by preparing technical inputs, implementing design revisions, and documenting impacts.
- Testing & Verification:
- Support FAT execution for new tool builds and support contaminated tooling testing.
- Document results, issues, and potential design improvements for future tool builds.
- Hands-On Skills:
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with company procedures and policies.
- Assembly, repair and maintain nuclear retube equipment.
- Coordinate and complete multiple tasks.
- Participate in equipment testing programs and troubleshooting mechanical systems.
- Required to support material handling activities, and manual lifting of tooling & equipment.
- Supervisory Responsibilities (If Applicable):
- Coordinate other technicians/trades on project deliverables.

About you
- Diploma of Collegial studies in mechanical engineering technology, certificate of qualification from College of Trades and Apprenticeship or relevant technical experience.
- Working experience between 8 to 10 years in mechanical assembly/testing/repair of nuclear inspection tooling and shop equipment.
- Experience with tooling repair, maintenance and operation.
- Knowledge of pneumatics hydraulics and mechanical systems.
- Knowledgeable with mechanical parts obsolescence, and capable of sourcing replacements.
- Familiar with engineering drawings for nuclear tooling using SolidWorks.
- Competent working in a contaminated work environment with RPPE.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task/Service orientated.
- Demonstrated ability to support complex and parallel technical projects.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work hands‑on with mechanical systems.
- Excellent communication (both oral and written) skills.
- Strong Interpersonal skills in communicating with a large team.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Willing to travel to and potentially work at Project sites to meet project needs.
Other Aspects (If Applicable):
- Security Clearance is a requirement for employment. (Candu & Customer site: Bruce Power/OPG).
