Overview

The Assistant Project Planner will play a hands-on role in shaping the delivery of some of the UK's most exciting and nationally significant infrastructure projects — from transforming rail networks and modernising water systems to developing major highways, defence facilities, and nuclear programmes.

As part of integrated project delivery teams, you'll learn how large engineering schemes come together by supporting the development of project timelines, tracking progress on live work, and helping teams make informed decisions that keep complex projects moving. This is a role where you won't just observe — you'll contribute directly to planning real engineering outcomes, gaining valuable experience, insight, and responsibility from day one.

This will allow you to gain unparalleled exposure by learning and developing on some of the UK's most significant engineering and infrastructure projects, with cross industry rotations and hands on experience that will accelerate your growth and set you apart in the early stages of your career.

Your role

  • Support the planning and scheduling aspects of major engineering and construction projects, helping to ensure work is delivered safely, efficiently and on time.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary project delivery team, collaborating with engineers, project managers and client teams on commissioned projects.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of project schedules using industry standard tools (training provided).
  • Help break down project work into manageable tasks and contribute to the logical sequencing of activities.
  • Support the monitoring of project progress by gathering updates from engineers, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Contribute to regular project reporting by preparing clear summaries, visual outputs and updates for project teams and clients.
  • Assist with maintaining baseline plans, recording changes and supporting time related project controls processes.
  • Use Microsoft Excel and other digital tools to prepare simple dashboards, charts and visual reports.
  • Take part in continuous improvement activities and learn best practice approaches in project planning and controls.
  • Develop skills in key Planning industry tools like Primavera P6, MS Project, Asta Power Project and reporting tools such as PowerBI.
