Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Manager to lead the design, operation, maintenance, and optimization of mechanical systems supporting mission-critical data centre facilities. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and scalability of cooling and mechanical infrastructure while driving operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and business continuity.
Your role
- Lead the management and operation of all mechanical systems within data centre facilities.
- Oversee the design, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC and cooling infrastructure.
- Ensure high availability and reliability of critical mechanical systems, including chillers, cooling towers, CRAC/CRAH units, pumps, piping, and water treatment systems.
- Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
- Monitor mechanical system performance and identify opportunities for efficiency and optimization.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts, root cause analyses, and corrective action plans for mechanical failures and incidents.
- Collaborate with design, engineering, construction, and operations teams on new builds, expansions, and retrofit projects.
- Support capacity planning and ensure mechanical infrastructure can meet future business requirements.
- Manage commissioning and integrated systems testing activities for mechanical equipment.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, environmental policies, and operational procedures.
- Drive sustainability initiatives focused on energy efficiency, water conservation, and PUE optimization.
- Review and approve mechanical designs, technical specifications, SOPs, MOPs, and maintenance procedures.
- Manage relationships with vendors, consultants, contractors, and service providers.
- Develop budgets, monitor expenditures, and support cost-control initiatives.
- Lead, mentor, and develop teams of mechanical engineers, technicians, and facility personnel.
- Provide technical leadership during audits, customer visits, and operational reviews.
- Ensure readiness and response capability for emergency situations affecting critical infrastructure.

About you
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Master's Degree in Engineering or Business Administration is preferred.
- 10+ years of mechanical engineering or critical facilities experience, including significant experience within data centre or mission-critical environments.
- Proven experience managing mechanical infrastructure in hyperscale, colocation, enterprise, or Tier III/Tier IV data centres.
- Strong knowledge of:
- HVAC systems and controls.
- Chillers and cooling plants.
- Cooling towers and condenser water systems.
- CRAC/CRAH units.
- Pumps, piping, and fluid distribution systems.
- Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM) platforms.
- Water treatment and energy management systems.
- Experience in design review, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of critical mechanical systems.
- Strong understanding of redundancy concepts, reliability engineering, and business continuity requirements.
- Familiarity with ASHRAE guidelines, Uptime Institute standards, TIA-942, NFPA, and local regulatory requirements.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing external contractors and vendors.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
- Experience in budget management, project planning, and resource allocation.
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, mission-critical environments.
- Preferred certifications:
- Professional Engineer (PE) / Chartered Engineer (CEng)
- Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Specialist (ATS)
- Certified Data Centre Professional (CDCP) or equivalent
- ASHRAE Certifications
- LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP)
- NEBOSH or IOSH Safety Certification.
