The Engineering Services Division is currently looking for an Intermediate or Senior Code Consultant, regular full time permanent position to support various projects across Canada. We are looking for innovative, critical thinking people who enjoy the challenge to apply the principles of fire safety science to the built environment.

Within the context of Canadian building and fire codes, you will support and develop alternative solutions, code compliance reviews and measure relative compliance with prescriptive measures. This is a client facing role that requires excellent communication and project management skills.

This position will be based in Vancouver, BC.

Your role within the team

  • Prepare building and fire code reports to support architectural design for new and existing construction.
  • Prepare alternative compliance solution reports. Produce building evacuation plans and conduct egress analysis and modelling.
  • Prepare fire hazard and fire risk analysis reports with use of fire modelling software.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines in planning and executing project tasks.
  • Represent the fire protection discipline within AtkinsRéalis in the development of external clients.
  • Lead and mentor fire protection and other discipline members through complex problems in the field of fire protection engineering.
  • Interprets internal/external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve processes or services.

The ideal candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or fire protection engineering technology fire protection engineering, architecture, or related field. Professional Engineer (P. Eng) license is an asset.
  • 5-10 years of experience in code consulting or fire protection engineering. Experience in independently preparing complex technical reports that clearly outline objectives with minimal guidance from senior team members. Knowledge of NBCC, NFCC, provincial codes, various fire protection standards (UL, NFPA, CSA).
  • Communicate different perspectives to senior level clients and internal stakeholders. Ability to lead, mentor and provide guidance in the field of fire protection. Ability to navigate through difficult concepts and provide summary to non-experts. Able to manage objections and demonstrate a different point of view. Ability to cross over multi-disciplinary projects. Collaborative approach and good communication skills.
  • Submit for and maintain a federal security clearance.
  • Valid driver's license.

Expected compensation for this role is between Pay Range $86,200 - $114,900 annually (Only Applicable to British Columbia). Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
