We are looking for an energetic and experienced River Engineer to join our team within the Design & Advanced Technology (D&AT)Practice of AtkinsRéalis . You'll be part of a talented, multi-disciplinary team delivering cutting edge, iconic projects to our Water market clients clients such as Thames Water, Anglian Water, South East Water, Southern Water,as well as other regional water authorities.

As a key member of our team, you'll play a vital role in delivering transformational programmes for critical UK infrastructure, with opportunities to work on landmark engineering projects both domestically and internationally. We offer hybrid working which involves 3 days per week being office/site based. This position is based in our Epsom or Peterborough offices.

Your role

The role will offer a challenging and rewarding opportunity to apply knowledge, experience, and problem-solving skills whilst providing good opportunities for career development.

As a River Engineer in the D&AT practice, the successful candidate would have the following responsibilities:

  • Support or lead a small team in the delivery of technical design work on multi-disciplinary projects following relevant national and project specific design codes and standards, and to high-quality levels in areas such as flood defences, culverts and hydraulic structures.
  • Responsible for inputting and/or preparing technical deliverables such as design reports, drawings, calculations, and scopes of work with defined scope.
  • Provide technical input into project design deliverables for River engineering aspects of multi-disciplinary projects and work with the River engineering team lead to recommend input into overall project milestones and programmes.
  • Collaborate with immediate River engineering team, multi-disciplinary project teams and other related AtkinsRéalis teams on delivery of various size engineering design deliverables and projects.
  • Work independently with moderate technical guidance. Use technical experience and judgement to solve design problems where appropriate and provide informal guidance to junior team members.
  • Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team in the UK and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions.
  • Adhere to quality assurance standards in design including check of own work as well as others.

About you

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent .
  • Chartered Civil Engineer.
  • Proven experience in delivery of technical design work as part of a River engineering design delivery team for a design consultancy.
  • Takes broad perspective to identify innovative solutions to design problems.
  • Requires broad knowledge and practical experience in design such as flood walls and embankments, weirs, hydraulic structures, culverts, scour protection, access and accessibility and construction logistics.
  • Practical knowledge of current design codes and standards as well as industry best practices.
  • Ability to work independently with moderate technical guidance.
  • Experience in Water market is preferred and experience in wider markets such as Aviation, Defence, Highways or Energy is desirable.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly and effectively within diverse multi-disciplinary teams.
  • A proactive, highly motivated mindset with a collaborative approach to drive teamwork and shared success across projects.
