National Pursuits/Capture Manager

The National Pursuits/Capture Manager leads the company's most important pursuits starting at $5 million in value.  Leads pursuit teams in strategy, identification of differentiators and win themes, pre-positioning, direction of client interface (though not a client-facing position), storyboarding, proposal oversight to make sure the proposal reflects the strategy (but not a Proposal Manager position), interview prep and coaching, corporate review compliance, and pursuit budgeting & monitoring. 

Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Business Development group as a National Pursuits/Capture Manager. This position will sit in any of our major US hub offices, including Orlando FL, Miami FL, Tampa FL, Atlanta GA, Calverton MD, Raleigh NC, Henderson NV, Alexandria, VA, Houston, TX.

How will you contribute to the team?

  • Leads the pursuit team.
  • Serves as “cheerleader” for the pursuit
  • Drives strategy development.  Participates in strategy development, strategic pursuit development, competitor analysis, and market research. 
  • Identifies differentiators and win themes
  • Leads pre-positioning activities (although not client-facing)
  • Leads storyboarding, working with the Proposal Manager
  • Provides proposal oversight (storyboarding and reviews) to ensure that the proposal reflects the strategy.  May write key message-intensive sections such as the Cover Letter or Executive Summary.
  • Prepares the pursuit budget and drives the process to meet the budget
  • Works across geographies and markets, with our primary markets being transportation, intermodal, federal, and state & local government. 
  • Travels, approximately 10% typically, but this has been suspended during the COVID-19 emergency.
  • Directs all aspects of the pursuit capture activities in accordance with our firm’s capture process, under guidance and support from the National Capture Director.
  • Maintains/nurtures relationship with marketing resources, BU Directors, BU Business Development (BD), Regional BD, BU managers, and Technical Professional Organization (TPO) managers.
  • Participates in capture update calls/reviews with senior/executive management and ensures all assigned opportunities are kept current in our tracking system.
  • Provides management, supervision, mentoring and support to any assigned capture managers.
  • Responsible for ensuring all aspects of the capture process conform to internal stage gate reviews, to include scheduling the necessary reviews to receive approval for qualifications and/or proposal/pricing submissions. 
  • Attends business unit and strategy groups meetings as requested/directed.
  • Provides strategic market sector positioning assistance as directed.
  • Facilitates progress meetings and drives pursuit team accountability (including subconsultants). 
  • Manages project capture plan action plans/schedules.
  • Participates in proposal reviews (e.g., pink, red, gold), working closely with the Marketing proposal team. 
  • Develops and/or supports presentation strategy, support materials and visuals; coordinates and critiques rehearsals and presentations.
  • Assists with capture training, to include providing training to staff.
  • Coordinates with BU and TPO in development of capture strategy and teaming as requested.
  • Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.

  

What will you contribute?

  • Bachelor's degree in English, business administration, marketing or a related major, or a field related to the infrastructure industry, or an equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience related to the infrastructure industry. Minimum fifteen years of relevant experience, with at least ten of these managing pursuits and a proven track record in pursuit/capture management and/or sales valued at $5 million.
  • Job requires strong organizational and supervisory skills, together with a high level of interpersonal and communication skills. Outgoing, self-starter with innate sales orientation, optimism and drive. Ability to facilitate teams. Experience in presentation coaching.
  • The ideal candidate has 15+ years of experience in Architectural/Engineering marketing, some business development or client management experience. 
  • Ability to lead and challenge large teams, think strategically, know the A/E marketplace, write well, coach interview teams and know how to win in the A/E industry. 
  • Geographic location is flexible as long as you are co-located with one of our hub offices.
