SNC-Lavalin Inc. is seeking a Senior Environmental Planner – Transit and Transportation for our Toronto, ON office who is seeking more experience and increased responsibility combined with exposure to a wide variety of transit, municipal and provincial transportation projects. The successful applicant will be involved in Design/Build and Operation phases of projects within a public-private partnership model for delivery of infrastructure, and provision of traditional consulting services to key clients. The ideal candidate will be a motivated and detail-oriented with a minimum of 12 years of demonstrated experience working on municipal, transit and provincial transportation projects in Ontario.

Responsibilities

  • Act as senior technical and Environmental Assessment (EA) lead for municipal, transit and provincial transportation projects
  • Act in the capacity of Environmental Manager in the context of bid pursuits and/or execution of Design/Build and Operation projects within a public-private partnership delivery model for infrastructure projects in Ontario
  • Independently conduct, coordinate and manage external subcontractors, where required, to complete EAs and supportive technical studies and documentation (e.g., noise, air, natural and cultural heritage, property contamination/remediation, etc.) for projects
  • Coordinate and lead to obtain environmental permits and approvals for projects from government/regulatory agencies (all jurisdictions)
  • Effectively delegate tasks and activities to other intermediate and junior staff and provide technical and supervisory guidance on assigned tasks
  • Interact with Clients on technical tasks as Project Manager and/or Environmental Manager
  • Manage and provide direction to coordinate, organize, prepare for, attend, and document project meetings (internal and external)
  • Manage and provide direction for the development and implementation of consultation programs, including municipal, federal/provincial regulatory agencies and Indigenous engagement
  • Collaborate with technical and professional staff across the company in completing assignments
  • Develop, prepare and maintain project/task schedules and budgets for the environmental component of projects. Monitor projects progress, work hours, budgets and expenditures, using project scheduling and cost control tools
  • Assist with and, as necessary, take lead role in the development of proposals, qualification documents and other business development related activities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies)
  • 12+ years of related experience in managing and coordinating environmental assessments and securing construction permits/approvals
  • Familiarity with the Ontario Environmental Assessment (EA) Act, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA), Ontario Regulation 231/08 - Transit Projects, Municipal Class EA, MTO Class EA and other legislation related to the position (e.g. Fisheries Act, Endangered Species Act, Navigation Protection Act, Environmental Protection Act)
  • Knowledge of other relevant Ontario Legislation and Provincial Policy (i.e., the Planning Act, the Greenbelt Act, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience working on municipal, transit and transportation projects in Ontario
  • Practical knowledge and understanding of engineering design and general construction methodologies for municipal, transit and provincial infrastructure projects
  • Ability to train and mentor junior and intermediate staff
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), as well as an aptitude for client liaison
  • Ability to plan and prioritize workload to manage multiple assignments at one time.
  • Must possess a valid Class G driver’s license
  • Experience working in a fast paced, consulting environment
  • Full or Provisional membership in a professional body (e.g. Registered Professional Planner (RPP and MCIP); Canadian Environmental Professional (EP); or Project Management Professional (PMP)
