Working out of SNC-Lavalin’s office in Merrillville, IN, you will be a part of a team that works on fast paced technically complex design/build projects in the biotech, pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries.
As a Sr. Mechanical Engineer in SNC-Lavalin's Engineering department and reporting to the Principal Engineering Manager, you will prepare, design, coordinate and review HVAC and associated systems.
What will be your contribution?
- Prepare HVAC system concepts for laboratory, manufacturing and office facilities.
- Prepare calculations for building loads using load programs.
- Prepare air flow and balance diagrams.
- Prepare chilled water, heating water and steam flow diagrams.
- Prepare calculations for LEED submission for projects.
- Prepare ductwork and pump head calculations.
- Participate in selection of chillers, boilers and other central plant equipment.
- Schedule HVAC equipment.
- Participate in commissioning of systems.
- Prepare calculations and concepts for laboratory, manufacturing and office facilities for hydronic and gas systems such as: Domestic Water, Sanitary, Storm Water, Compressed Air, Vacuum, Natural Gas, Clean Steam, Pure Water, Lab Gasses, Process Cooling.
- Prepare flow diagrams and riser diagrams.
- Prepare calculations for LEED submission for projects.
- Participate in selection and scheduling of domestic hot water boilers, air compressors, vacuum pumps, clean steam generators, valves and regulators, plumbing fixtures, and process coolers.
- Prepare plumbing and fire protection plan drawings.
- Coordinate design with architectural, structural, and electrical disciplines.
- Coordinate fire protection design with client’s underwriter and the local authority.
- Review progress of construction in the field and write reports.
- Write basis of design documents.
- Write specifications.
- Complete Quality Management Training and comply with the program upholding a commitment to a culture of quality in all aspects of work.
What are we looking for?
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent 4 year degree.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
- 10+ years experience in an engineering firm.
- Microsoft Project, Excel and Word experience.
