AtkinsRealis is looking for Safety DSA Analyst(s) to be a part of our team in supporting the design of new nuclear power plants and the operation and refurbishment of existing CANDU nuclear power plants.

Location – Buenos Aires, Argentina

Your role within the team

  • Responsible for Deterministic Safety Assessments of Plant Systems (Process & Safety), especially Heat Transport System (HTS) and Containment, as well as Severe Accident Progression Analysis.
  • Analyzing of postulated accidents using state-of-the-art methodologies and computer codes.
  • Developing approaches to be used on Safety Analysis tasks, creating analysis basis plans & analysis basis reports.
  • Independently performs assignments with instructions about the general results expected.
  • Ensuring work is performed consistent with Project Requirements.
  • Plans and conducts own work requiring initiative and independent judgement.
  • Develops, plans, schedules, conducts or co-ordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in part of a major project or in a total project of considerable scope.
  • Work involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitable standard materials and difficult co-ordination requirements.
  • Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering methods.
  • Applies broad knowledge of precedents in the engineering discipline or field and a good knowledge of the principles and practices of related disciplines or fields.
  • Recommendations are normally accepted as technically accurate and feasible and are reviewed with regard to their overall soundness of judgement.

The ideal candidate :

  • A Relevant honours degree from a university of recognized standing in Engineering or Science with minimum of 1, 5 or 10 years (Jr., Intermediate and Sr. positions, respectively) of relevant experience (experience obtained in advanced degree programs will be considered for applicability against this requirement);
  • Must be conversant with computer environments; proficiency in both Linux and WINDOWS environments is a strong asset;
  • Broad knowledge of thermal-fluid sciences (fluid flow, heat transfers, multi-phase flow and thermodynamics);
  • Familiarity and experience with some of the safety and licensing computer codes such as CATHENA, NUCIRC, ADDAM, GOTHIC and MAAP;
  • Proficiency in computer programming, especially FORTRAN, is desirable;
  • Good knowledge of the CANDU design, with particular emphasis on the heat transport system (HTS) and plant control, containment and moderator systems would be an asset;
  • Good knowledge of underlying engineering principles and practices;
  • Experience in licensing activities would also be an asset;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and be flexible, i.e., must be able to perform varied work assignments effectively and respond quickly to changing project needs;
  • Ability to show initiative while working in a team environment;
  • Ability to work to budget and schedule;
  • Must be willing to travel occasionally to participate in meetings and workshops;
  • Full commitment to working in a formal QA environment.
