The department of Safety Engineering at AtkinsRéalis/Candu Energy is engaged in the deterministic and probabilistic fire assessments in support of new CANDU Nuclear Power Plants as well as supporting the operation and safety of the existing domestic and international CANDU plants.
AtkinsRéalis is looking to hire a Fire Protection Engineer/Code Compliance Specialist. The incumbent will work together with other senior and junior staff to develop and apply advanced analysis methodologies to address client/project concerns regarding safety and licensing for plant support, refurbishment and new-build. These include issues related to fire hazard assessment (FHA), fire probabilistic safety assessment (PSA), fire safe shutdown analysis (FSSA) and fire code compliance review (CCR). The candidates are expected to enhance their technical skills through on-the-job-training, and be ready to take on various technical tasks within a short period of time.
Location – Mississauga, ON.
Your role
- ParticipateLead in multiple engineering projects from inception through to delivery in support of fire protection assessments safety standards and codes.
- Perform fire code compliance review for the detection and suppression systems.
- Support the delivery of project work within time and cost budgets.
- Keep up to date with regulations and legislation.
- Developing fire engineering solutions on projects and ensuring the fire engineering strategy delivered.
- Assess fire related risks in projects and working collaboratively to mitigate where possible.
- Review fire protection design for code compliance review as per applicable codes and standards.
- Undertake tenders for new work.
- Prepare proposals, take part in analysis and design team meetings, and liaise with client representatives as required.
About you
- Engineering degree, preferably fire engineering or alternatively a post graduate qualification in fire engineering with atleastat least 510 years of experience in FHA, CCR or FSSA. A plus would be CFPS certification of the NFPA.
- Registered or eligible for a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
- Strong Familiarization with Ffire modelling experience using CFAST. Knowledge of fire modeling using FDS will be beneficial.
- Strong experience working with a range of building codes and fire standards including but not limited to NBCC, NFCC, CSA N293, CSA N393, and fire related NFPA and ULC standardsNFPA 101, NFPA 72, NFPA 10, NFPA 13, NFPA 25, and NFPA 80.
- Demonstrate a strong record of successfully delivering fire safety projects with experience executing, managing schedule and budget, and reporting, to meet nuclear project goals. Experience in team leading is a plus.
- Being customer and end user centric, demonstrating good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team including other engineering disciplines and technologists.
- Strong communication skills, including delivering technical presentations accurately and effectively.
