Our Road & Utilities engineering team is looking for Civil & Utility Design Engineer to join our growing team. In addition to civil and utility design, you will have exposure to structural, traffic, environmental, geotechnical, foundations, geomatics, rail and electrical design during the course of our design assignments. You will be working in a fast-paced team-oriented environment. 

Your role within the team

• Develop engineering designs and drawings for road and wet utility systems including water supply, sanitary and storm sewage systems from preliminary concepts, specifications, bid documents, engineering directives, and other data, according to client specifications.
• Design and prepare geometric alignments, roadway plans, profiles, cross sections, intersections, earthworks, roadside safety, storm drainage systems, watermains, and sanitary sewer systems.
• Analyze and interpret information from wet/dry utility records and surveys, identify utility conflicts, prepare plans for relocation, coordinate with utility companies, and/or upgrade of the utility infrastructure as necessary. Familiarity with Municipal Consent Requirements (MCR) and Public Utility Coordinating Committee (PUCC) processes related to municipal projects.
• Work collaboratively within project teams consisting of engineers, engineering interns and CAD technicians from various disciplines in the planning, execution, and management of road and wet utility infrastructure projects.
• Prepare technical reports, calculations, technical memos, and meeting minutes. Develop and prepare contract packages including design drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Provide engineering services during construction activities including reviewing shop drawings for conformance with specifications, response to inquiries, and resolve construction issues.
• Support project managers with proposal writing, business development, and client-based support.

The ideal candidate

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution. Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in civil and utility engineering with a focus on linear transportation infrastructure projects involving roads, water supply, sanitary sewage, and storm drainage systems.
• Proven track record of successfully designing civil and utility components in municipal roads, highways, and/or light rail transit projects from conception to completion including preliminary and detailed design, technical reports, design calculations, drawings, cost estimate, specifications, and contract documents.
• Strong familiarity with civil, transportation, utility, drainage, watermain, sanitary and storm sewer design standards and guidelines in Ontario. Experience conducting road and utility construction inspections would be an asset.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, InRoads/OpenRoads, MS Project, MS Office Suite.
• Valid Class G Driver’s License is required.
