  • Geomatics


Requirements:

Geospatial: Minimum 2.2 Bachelor’s or above in; GIS, Geospatial, Geography, Earth Sciences

Geomatics: Minimum 2.2 Bachelor’s or above in: Geomatics, Surveying & Land, Surveying & Mapping Science

Being a part of the Geospatial team could see you providing a range of services covering the full lifecycle of location-based information, from data acquisition and processing to spatial analysis and display. Our drive is to deliver innovative, quality solutions to our clients enabling them to use data to make well informed decisions in a user friendly and intuitive environment. Our success lies in our integration across the AtkinsRéalis businesses, and our hunger to push geospatial solutions ever forward.

As one of our Geospatial Graduates you’ll work on some of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects and initiatives such as helping the UK to achieve its ambitious Net Zero targets as well as projects overseas. You will get to work on a wide variety of projects from the moment you join, as well as attending ESRI and FME training.

You could be involved in:

  • Advising and guiding clients on the best approach to take for the geospatial aspects of their projects, from basic constraints mapping for our environment team to public engagement using Arc StoryMaps or our own webGIS
  • Working with our software developers to create a brand-new spatial use portal
  • Creating viewshed maps for planning applications
  • Biomass mapping, creating maps for the United Nations Development Programme

Geomatics

Locations within this team: Whitehaven (West Cumbria).

Within AtkinsRéalis Geomatics we collect raw geospatial data using a wide variety of traditional and leading-edge surveying and remote sensing technologies including drone, LiDAR and Ground penetrating Radar. We provide Geomatics services to small, medium and large projects from geodetic control survey, traditional ground survey, LiDAR/Laser Scanning survey (static, mobile and aerial), aerial photogrammetric survey (manned and unmanned) and sub-surface utility surveys.

Our aspiration is to define innovative solutions in order to provide the highest quality 3D survey and mapping data products to our clients’ requirements. Our success lies in our experience across a wide range of data capture techniques and collaborative approach to defining the most appropriate survey methodology, working in partnership with disciplines from across the AtkinsRéalis community.

The role of a Geomatics Graduate is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to gain experience in implementing survey solutions across disciplines. You will be involved in:

  • Projects where we are advising internal and external clients on the best approach to take.
  • Delivering surveys for a wide range of data capture requirements Large scale surveys of existing or for new infrastructure, aerial or ground based.
  • As-built surveys for BIM modelling and compliance testing.
  • Tasks could include:
    • Acquisition of site survey data using drones, total stations, laser scanners and GPS.
    • Office-based production of deliverables including basic CAD outputs, orthophoto, 3D ground models, BIM models and visualisations.
  • Spatial analyses
  • Compliance and monitoring of Health and Safety requirements
  • Assisting surveyors on site in the acquisition of topographical data
  • Assisting in the general running of the survey operation
  • Assisting in the production of digital ground models and drawings
  • Working on various sites operating total stations, drones, laser scanners, GPS and generally assisting the surveyor
  • Downloading data from instruments
  • Part processing data checking inputs
  • Creating AutoCAD drawings
  • Compliance with Health and Safety requirements

Much of the work is based on-site therefore the applicant must be comfortable with working outdoors in all weather conditions. The work may at times require staying away from home.

There is an increasing overlap between Geomatics and the wider Geospatial team of which we are part. It is therefore likely there will be opportunities to work in a GIS environment and software. Collaboration is the key in AtkinsRéalis and might require you to undertake overseas visits to both AtkinsRéalis international offices or client sites.

In order to be exposed to wider opportunities and gain a broader outlook of our work, you will be positively encouraged to work on a range of projects and in a variety of roles over the first three-year period.
