Our Transportation division is seeking an Account Director to work with our Engineering Practice and Local Transport market, leading our large Local Authority professional services contract for Buckinghamshire Council, Buckinghamshire Highways.

The Role:

  • As Account Director, you will have overall accountability for all aspects of the Buckinghamshire account, from personnel performance through to technical delivery processes, commercial targets and client management.
  • You will drive the contract and set the strategic direction for client management, delivery and commercial performance and play a key role in driving collaboration with the Client and stakeholders, fostering an Alliance culture and helping exceed the Clients priorities for the Contract.
  • This role is expected to work across the wider AtkinsRéalis business, providing support and collaboration across other Local Transport and Strategic Highways contracts, including bidding for future opportunities.

Your Purpose:

  • Develop and maintain long term and collaborative partnerships with the Client and the Term Maintenance Contractor (Balfour Beatty Living Places) to generate significant benefits for our Client, for AtkinsRéalis and other involved parties.
  • Build a strong leadership team around you to support the overall objectives you set for the account.
  • Hold overall accountability for the account P&L.
  • Provide overall leadership and strategic direction to the team and embed a culture of high performance, innovation and continuous improvement in the management of the multi-disciplinary delivery teams and services.
  • Ensure strong commercial, technical and personnel performance.
  • Drive the strategic direction of the contract.
  • Provide independent challenge to Project Directors on the performance of their projects and portfolios across the entire contract.
  • Lead Executive level reporting across the Alliance with the client and TMC.

What can you bring:

  • Degree qualified, ideally with Chartered Membership in a relevant discipline.
  • Professional Membership or Fellowship or equivalent relevant to discipline.
  • Proven Leadership in Account Management: Demonstrated ability to lead and manage high-performing account teams, ensuring the delivery of exceptional client service and achieving business objectives.
  • Strategic Client Relationship Building: Extensive experience in developing and nurturing long-term client relationships, with a track record of identifying and capializing on new business opportunities.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and revenue growth strategies. Proven ability to manage account profitability and achieve financial targets.
  • Project Management Expertise: Skilled in overseeing complex projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery, adherence to scope, and high-quality standards.
  • Market Insight and Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of market trends and industry dynamics, with the ability to provide strategic insights and recommendations to clients.
  • Effective Communication and Negotiation Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to negotiate effectively and present confidently to senior stakeholders.
  • Team Development and Mentorship: Experience in mentoring and developing team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Compliance and Governance: Strong knowledge of compliance requirements and governance standards, ensuring all activities are conducted within regulatory frameworks.

Security clearance: 

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance.  If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview. The vetting process is delivered by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require candidates to provide proof of residency in the UK of 5 years or longer.
