The Deputy Director, Engineering reports to the Cernavoda 3 / 4 New Build Engineering Director and will be responsible for delivering the internal engineering work of a multi-discipline team.

This role will be based in Mississauga, ON.

Your role within the team:

  • Responsible for the utilization of the engineering personnel assigned to him/her.
  • Ensure qualified and appropriate staff are working on the project and are assigned work within their experience and skills.
  • Provide guidance, technical insights, supervision and feedback to the Engineering Managers that are part of his/her team.
  • Oversight of technical deliverables budget, schedule and quality.
  • Ensure that the final deliverables meet customer requirements specified in the contract and overall alignment with nuclear codes and standards.
  • Review and approve or delegate the approval of key technical documentation under his supervision.
  • Identifying and proposing improvements in the functioning of the organization – both proactively and in response to changes in the business environment.
  • Liaise with external clients at the behest of the Engineering Director regarding the technical matters.

The ideal candidate:

  • Degree from an accredited university in an applicable field of engineering or science.
  • At least 15 years of applicable engineering experience including experience in engineering supervisory / management roles.
  • At least 10 years applicable experience working on CANDU® technologies.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Level 2 security clearance.
  • Experience in executing projects that are subject to import/export controls.
  • Experience in managing sub consultants and work sharing with other offices within a company or joint venture.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, qualified to seal engineering documents in a relevant field of engineering, or eligible to obtain for such registration within 6 months of hiring.
  • Sound knowledge of multiple engineering fields and of nuclear technologies.
  • Demonstrated skills in the management engineering scopes of work on complex technical projects, leadership, and project management of a highly technical group.
  • Working knowledge of construction methods, building systems and terminology.
  • Working knowledge of Canadian and EU regulatory practices.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills in the development of team members and support staff.
  • Strong communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent clients focus and conflict resolution skills.

  • Demonstrated business acumen – the ability to think, plan and negotiate strategically with a strong commercial orientation and good understanding of financial measurements.
  • Travel to client sites as required by the project.
  • Security Clearance through Public Works Government Services Canada is a condition of employment.
