Junior Electrical Analyst

As a new member of the NSP electrical engineering department, you will involved with a variety of exciting projects supporting the design and modifications for the electrical power system for Candu and other Nuclear power plants.  This role will require carrying out various duties involved with conceptual, preliminary and detailed engineering as well as procurement support associated electrical power system equipment.

Location - Mississauga, ON

This position is for a junior or entry level person who is self-motivated and willing to develop his/her career with experience in nuclear field. The candidate shall be able to follow the instruction from a qualified professional engineer to complete the assigned electrical related scopes or tasks and prepare necessary engineering design documentation as required.

Your role within the team:

  • Perform engineering work following SNC-Lavalin/Candu Energy procedures and QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and interface with client(s), suppliers, stakeholders and other design disciplines to execute assigned engineering work.
  • Become involved in conceptual, preliminary and/or detailed design phases to support CANDU and other Nuclear electrical systems and modifications under supervision of a P.Eng.
  • Prepare technical documents, such as: engineering drawings (including GAs, DDs, EDs), change paper markups, calculations, design/analysis reports, design requirements, design manuals, bill of materials, design specifications, technical specifications, component specification sheets, commissioning specifications, etc.
  • Participate in review of interfacing discipline’s documentation.
  • Prepare requisitions or Engineering Quotation Requests (EQR) for equipment and materials to support procurement.
  • Interface and provide technical guidance and instruction to Designers/Drafters if required.
  • Prepare or assist preparation of scope of work and input to bid proposal.
  • Perform field walk-downs during different design phases, and prepare Walkdown reports as required.
  • Assist field construction and execution activities, such as: field changes, design revisions, commissioning, AFS, closeout, etc.
  • Complete the assigned scopes or tasks within given budget and schedule, and in good quality.

 The ideal candidate:

  • Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent degree as recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
  • 1 - 3 years of related work experience in electrical engineering and power systems design for either in the Nuclear industry or other heavy industrial environment such as: mining, oil & gas, power, etc.
  • Basic knowledge and experience of CANDU nuclear electrical power systems is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge applicable codes and standards, such as of CSA 22.1, Canadian Electrical Code Part I and The Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC).
  • Experience in modelling electrical power systems and use of analysis functions in ETAP, or other similar software program is an asset.
  • Shall have fundamental technical knowledge to resolve engineering issues or technical problems.
  • Shall have excellent communication and technical writing skills and good ability to interact and communicate (both verbal and in writing) professionally with colleagues, clients and contractors.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Site experience in construction, or commissioning of electrical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries would be an asset.
  • Willing to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW).
