Network & onsite implementation Engineer

As part of our customer's mandate, the site engineer's involvement is only required for the installation of equipment on site, which will be carried out on a part-time basis throughout the execution, site acceptance test (SAT) and factory acceptance test (FAT).

After the initial installation, there may be additional tasks, depending on the contractor's performance and/or the project team's requirements.

The engineer may also be involved in other major projects to assist colleagues in the field of IP MPLS and telecoms networks.

Given the extent of the project, covering approximately 70 sites across the province of Ontario, for the replacement of legacy SONET equipment deployed at SONET Rings 1 through 9 (where the first generation of equipment is deployed) throughout 5 phases, we expect to have a team of individuals that can move along with the contractor as the need arises.

The site visits are conducted in person, hybrid work.

This role will be based in Toronto, ON. 191 The West Mall

Votre rôle au sein de l’équipe :

  • Validate the feasibility of concepts recommended by external firms.
  • Design and drafting of plans and specifications for construction.
  • Provide technical assistance during the implementation phases.
  • Ensure the completion of various projects of a technical nature by determining work plans, methodologies, schedules and costs.
  • Design and carry out various studies (technical studies, feasibility studies, etc.)
  • Coordinate the implementation and monitoring of projects with stakeholders from the different sections and customers, including internal engineering needs and technical issues, approval of shop drawings and technical sheets, engineering guidelines, and site instructions.
  • Research, design, analyze and recommend various technical solutions.
  • Design new equipment, processes or facilities (to improve productivity, safety, service, etc.)
  • Establish, modify, implement and monitor work methods, procedures, standards, rules and design criteria.
  • Draw up plans and specifications, specifications, write reports.
  • Provide technical support and acts as a consultant. Maintain your knowledge of the products, standards, and technologies available in your specialty.
  • Exercise functional control over administrative/technical staff such as technical support technicians. May be called upon to give technical advice to less experienced professionals.

The ideal candidate:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or relevant discipline and be a member of Ontario Professional engineer (P.Eng.).
  • Telecommunications Engineer - with at least 5 years of experience in telecommunications network architecture.
  • Cisco CCNA/CCNP/CCIE certification or equivalent knowledge.
  • Experience and Knowledge of fiber optics (SONET, wavelength, types of lasers, power...).
  • Experience in site inspection (site survey).
  • Experience and Knowledge in network and site implementation (SONET).
  • Knowledge in DWDM/MPLS installation and testing, familiar with PCT equipment at utility environment and UWPC.
  • Experience in telecom network deployment in the power utility environment.
  • Experience and knowledge of services in industrial SCADA environment.
  • Experience and knowledge of IP network design, operation and optimization.
  • Experience with Wi-Fi networks, Ekahau, Cisco Prime, wireless local network (WLC) controllers, access points, access control servers (ACS).
  • Knowledge of protocols (Ethernet, MCLAG, LACP, PPP, DHCP...).
  • Knowledge of Layer 3 protocols (IPv4, IPv6, MPLS, BGP, IS-IS, L2/L3 VPN...).
  • Knowledge of IP and IP/MPLS environments (EVPN, ...) and collection architectures (L2TP, BNG).
  • Knowledge and skills in troubleshooting EIGRP, IS-IS, BGP, MP-BGP VLAN/trunking, QoS and MPLS applications, and redistribution between different routing protocols.
  • Strong knowledge of MPLS backbone and related technologies such as MPLS-VPN, MPLS-TE, VPLS, Fast reroute and Multicast.
  • Knowledge of wireless networks DAS, GSM, HSPA, UMTS, LTE, 5G.
  • Hold a valid driver's license
