The Bridges Department – Central Region, is looking for a Structural Engineer (Bridges) for our team in Ontario. Reporting to the Manager, Bridges – Central Region, the engineer will be responsible for carrying out engineering activities in the field of bridges and engineering structures such as the  development, design, evaluation, inspection, and execution of various projects.

This is a hybrid position with the office based in Toronto.

Your role within the Team:

  • Support and develop the technical knowledge of professionals (engineers and technicians) including carrying out studies, structural analysis, and evaluations.
  • Carry out preliminary and detailed structural design including tender preparation for the construction and/or rehabilitation of bridges and other structures.
  • Carry out structure inspections and asset management activities for existing structures. 
  • Preparation of proposals including technical publications and conferences.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Degree in Civil Engineering (preferably with a structural major). Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with PEO.
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering practice in analysis and design of various types of bridge and transportation structures; railway structures is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a multi-disciplinary team delivering projects with variety of complexity, type of bridge, size and scope
  • Experience with the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC) and the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) Code.
  • Experience with reviewing condition survey reports and making recommendations for rehabilitation strategy.
  • Experience in preparing structural designs and evaluations, and contract packages for the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) with key Clients (MTO, Metrolinx, Municipalities and TTC), including current Ministry policies, procedures, standards, specifications, and manuals.
  • Proficient in SAP 2000, CSI Bridge, MIDAS, Staad Pro, ETABS, Bentley ProjectWise and Microsoft Office applications.
