Telecom Specialist/ Engineer

The Telecom Specialist/ Engineer is required to work within a multi-discipline team to design efficient and reliable telecommunication facilities. The engineer will coordinate his/her design activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion. The engineer will also assist the Estimating Team in preparation of estimates and project proposals.

This position is accountable to provide all design activities in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including all AtkinsRéalis’s policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control.

This role will be based in Burnaby, BC.

Your role within the team:

  • Preparation of project specifications for material/equipment purchase and installation.

  • Design of telecommunication facilities including Microwave and UHF radio links, fiber optic transmission links including the cable (ADSS and OPGW), SONET & SDH/TDM multiplex systems, IP/MPLS Network systems, teleprotection, VSAT systems, cable protection systems, telecom power systems and telecom towers & antennas.

  • Delivery of accurate and thorough designs that will meet industry standards and specifications as well as meet good engineering practices with excellent constructability.

  • Review of internal and external designs for code compliance with good design practice and constructability.

  • Resolving site queries, attending site meetings and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects.

  • Maintaining complete project documentation with respect to telecom design and construction, including all completion packages, as-built requirements and return data information.

  • Making and maintaining appropriate commitments to project teams and coordinating design activities with multi-disciplined project team members.

  • Maintaining good working relationships with internal groups that support projects such as procurement, project management, etc.

  • Maintaining good working relationships with material suppliers, contractors, and any others that affect the quality, schedule and cost of projects.

  • Mentoring and providing guidance to developing engineers within the department.

The ideal candidate:

  • A degree in Telecom or Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.

  • Coop experience for junior candidates is an advantage.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in telecom engineering DESIGN on above mentioned technologies (Registration with EGBC preferred) for experienced engineers.

  • Proficiency in Pathloss - Microwage Software.

  • Knowledge of Canadian and British Columbia codes and standards, including OH&S Regulations, CSA codes is an asset.

  • These positions require a high level of interpersonal communication skills, dtrong client focus.

  • Occasional travel to site locations is required.

Expected compensation for this role is between Pay Range $70,000 - $100,000 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
