We are hiring! AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Mid-Atlantic Transportation Design Lead to join our Raleigh, NC / Mississauga, ON office.   

We are seeking a talented, passionate technical leader to join our team in Raleigh, North Carolina who will be responsible for managing transportation design teams and delivering growth across North Carolina and the Mid-Atlantic Region by connecting strategies, solutions and offerings unique to our clients.  This role will work across our transportation business, in close collaboration with local design team managers, DOT and Infrastructure Solutions Business Unit Leadership, and the Technical Professional Organization (TPO) leadership and staff.

This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned veteran or an ambitious self-starter to be a key contributor for excellence in group management, technical quality and in delivery of roadway construction plans for our clients in the Noth Carolina, Virginia, and the regional market.  You will be a key face of the company and lead for strategic and technical growth throughout the region focused primarily on public sector transportation clients. How will you contribute to the team?

You will contribute as a leader in Project Delivery, Staff Administration and participate in execution of our growth plans within the region:

Project Delivery and Operations Management –

  • Manage a team with annual project revenue exceeding $10 million, including some of the highest profile projects currently in progress within the state.
  • Lead key projects as a Project Manager and act as a key client contact.
  • Assist project teams in technical guidance and growth.
  • Encourage professional growth for all members of the team.
  • Ensure that project work plans are developed and acted on.
  • Manage workload to ensure project staffing needs are met.
  • Participate in reviews of schedules, budgets, project milestone dates and work products.
  • Ensure financial performance of projects are managed and delivered on.
  • Assist managers in proactively identifying potential problem projects to ensure remedial actions are promptly taken.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with established quality control standards, ensuring that appropriate quality assurance activities are being performed throughout the area of responsibility.
  • Review project QC plans and periodic QA compliance audits on current or recently completed projects.
  • Assist with contract negotiations with clients and subconsultants.
  • Ensure oversight of team accounts receivable and client billings.

 Staff Administration –

  • Assist TPO management in identifying staffing needs based on future workload and manpower projections.
  • Leading efforts to recruit, hire, and develop staff.
  • Manage recommendations for salary offers for new hire candidates as well as salary and position adjustment actions for staff.
  • Conduct semi-annual performance reviews and annual career planning sessions with direct reports. Provides staff with ongoing performance feedback and counsel to promote improved performance and career development.
  • Help staff identify and pursue technical and professional development activities consistent with their career development goals and business objectives/needs.

 Sales and Client Development –

  • Establish, nurture and grow client relationships.
  • Team Leader that participates in key pursuits and teaming strategies.
  • Represent and promote the company at networking events, professional and industry associations, society meetings, conferences, and tradeshows.
  • Participate in the capture process, including proposal preparation and review for opportunities within the region.
  • Actively pursue new project opportunities by maintaining contacts with current and prospective clients.
  • Maintains visibility and professional currency by participating in civic and professional organizations and encourages staff to do the same.

 What will you contribute?

  • B.S or M.S. degree in civil engineering with a focus in transportation.
  • NC PE License Required, VA and other surrounding states Preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in transportation, with experience leading transportation design projects for the North Carolina Department of Transportation highly preferred.
  • 10+ years of project management and team leadership experience.
  • Have an existing network of transportation connections and regional expertise in roadway/highway design.
  • Existing NCDOT relationships
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, public speaking, and persuasive ability.
  • Strong financial management, team management, and leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to manage individuals and teams, provide leadership, and manage project production.
  • Skilled at promoting the firm and negotiating fair contracts.
  • Must have business vision, excellent communication skills, and be able to represent the firm effectively to clients, key public officials, and the community in general.
