We're passionate about what we do, but we don't take ourselves too seriously. Simply put, this a great place to be. So, when it comes to your life outside of work, ask us about our flexible and remote working policies designed to help you get the most out of life.

AtkinsRéalis is one of the world’s most respected design, engineering and project management consultancies. We build long-term trusted partnerships to create a world where lives are enriched through the implementation of new and exciting ideas. We have a vision to shape the future of transportation, to lead where others follow and to deliver the future of mobility today.

Our Transportation business covers all aspects of multidisciplinary design and management from inception to options appraisal through to detailed scheme design and delivery support. We are seeking a Bid / Proposal Manager to lead practice led bids supporting our delivery teams across the UK. Working within our delivery teams you will engage with our Market and Client Directors in addition to our technical delivery staff to develop strong proposals for a wide range of clients across the transportation sector.

The Transportation division faces into the three key markets: Local Transport, Strategic Highways and Regional Roads, and Rail and Transit. A critical component of our workload is derived from ‘practice led bids’ developed by our technical teams typically for regional clients which include local and combined mayoral authorities, regional bodies, developers and contractors. The role is to provide support and bid leadership to these teams to ensure these bids are consistently of high quality and competitive in the market.

Two roles are available:

North – Newcastle, Stockton, Leeds or Manchester.

Midlands – Derby or Birmingham.

The role will involve:

  • Regional point of focus for all practice led bids.
  • Proposal management, collaborating with technical delivery teams.
  • Development of win themes.
  • Bid coordination, chasing and securing input in a timely manner for review.
  • Interviewing technical staff to draw out bid responses including evidence.
  • Drafting or redrafting responses with support from technical staff.
  • Driving bidding best practice across the bids you work on with support from the Division wide win work team.
  • Development of win work library and bid process to support continuous improvement in bidding.

Reporting and accountability-

The role will report to the Engineering Practice Operations Director as well as ‘dotted line’ reporting to the Transportation divisional level win work team.

Your purpose:

  • Track record of leading and winning major strategic bids.
  • Excellent communication skills – written, verbal, presentational, and facilitation.
  • Experience of structured bid processes; using these to drive high quality submissions.
  • Co-ordination and setting the strategy and ensuring bid delivery across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to undertake tasks within demanding timescales.
  • Commitment to quality and attention to detail.

What you can bring:

  • Lead the practice team’s input and support to identified opportunities.
  • Facilitate and support the development of practice led bids; competitor analysis, win themes, answer planning, storyboarding, bid writing / editing, and bid reviews.
  • Oversee quality aspects of practice led bids – providing robust review and challenge on submissions.
  • Ensure compliance with Atkins’ procedures.
  • Proactive involvement in the development and implementation of initiatives to improve the quality, compliance and success of bids.

Expectation:

  • A proven track record of successfully delivering bids from client information capture, through PQQ and ITT stage, feedback and lessons learnt.
  • Demonstrate experience in leading bid teams from setting a strategy though to delivery of outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate well at all levels and in all forums from one-to-ones through to group workshops and facilitation.
  • Strong influencing skills to ensure that the expert knowledge held in our teams is maximised on each opportunity.

Why work for AtkinsRéalis?

Our Transportation teams are reinventing transport for a challenging yet exciting future. We're creating new ideas and smart solutions for cities, people and the environment. You'll be working alongside some of the top people in our industry, solving challenges that bring together traditional engineering and new technologies. As part of our organisation, you'll be in a privileged position, delivering what's right for governments and communities. You'll be helping us to improve our leading environmental performance while enabling others to do the same.

Security clearance:

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance.  If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview. The vetting process is delivered by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require candidates to provide proof of residency in the UK of 5 years or longer. If applying to this role please do not make reference to (in conversation) or include in your application or CV, details of any current or previously held security clearance.

We are committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive community - a place where we can all be ourselves, thrive and develop. To help embed inclusion for all, from day one, we offer a range of family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements and employee networks to support staff from different backgrounds.
