Principal or Senior Mechanical Engineer (with people focus) – Net Zero

We are seeking a technically strong Principal or Senior Mechanical Engineer who also thrives on line-managing staff and assisting with team co-ordination. This position would be based in Glasgow, with a flexible mixture of home-working and office/site collaboration time expected. We also welcome applicants wishing to work part-time. Our Net Zero Engineering Business unit is a multi-disciplinary team that offers a stimulating variety of work, from feasibility studies through to detailed design, site surveys and design verification.

Within our Net Zero Engineering Business, the mechanical team has a focus on diversifying the energy mix in the United Kingdom and elsewhere. This includes power generation (from gas, biomass, hydro and nuclear), natural gas cavern storage, hydrogen (production & cavern storage), and industrial decarbonisation.

Your Purpose: 

Are you an experienced mechanical engineer with excellent leadership abilities? We are looking for a technically strong individual who also thrives on line-managing staff and assisting with team co-ordination.

Do you enjoy a wide variety of tasks and projects? We are looking for someone versatile; you could be working on a small individual assignment or as part of a larger, multi-disciplinary team. You will enjoy working on a range of tasks whilst helping to mentor and train more junior colleagues.

Examples of the types of work you may be involved in:

  • Supervising, developing, and mentoring others.
  • Leading technical aspects of mechanical engineering projects. This may be over a range of design phases, from optioneering through to detailed design.
  • Coordinating team activities such as resourcing and group meetings (working alongside the group lead).

What you can bring:

In addition to having strong communication and leadership skills, key attributes include the following: 

  • Master’s degree (MEng/MSc) qualified Mechanical Engineer.
  • Chartered Engineer and a member of IMechE is desirable.
  • Strong technical background.
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry (e.g., power, chemical, oil & gas) is desirable.

Some examples of the technical experience that would be of benefit are:

  • pipe stress analysis.
  • equipment specification and engineering specification writing.
  • pressure part design calculations.
  • plant layout design.
  • checking and providing assurance of deliverables.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance.  If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview.
