Our expertise includes Nuclear Steam Plant (NSP) engineering, Balance of Plant (BOP) engineering, Plant Life Management and Extension, Retube Tooling Systems, Inspection and Maintenance Services, Steam Generator Replacement, Plant Equipment Refurbishment and Retrofits.Our Nuclear Canada business is experiencing significant growth driven in by the planned building of new CANDU reactors including the existing Enhanced CANDU 6 (EC6) design and the new to market MONARK reactor. The first CANDU reactor to be built in 20 years is likely to be Cernavoda Units 3 and 4, next to the existing operational Cernavoda Units 1 and 2 in Eastern Romania. In October AtkinsRéalis and its partners submitted their final bid to the owner and operator of Cernavoda to build two new units. Work for the next 5 years will be focused on engineering and procurement services from our Canadian and UK offices.

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to help in delivery of the next phase of the Cernavoda Units 3 and 4 new build contracts. The Project Manager will report to the Deputy Project Director and will be responsible for key aspects of engineering and procurement delivery. This role will require leadership of project team members, and will be responsible for developing work execution plans, assignment of project team members, development of overall work breakdown structure (WBS), project deliverables, budget, schedule, subcontract and supplier strategy, risk management, project forecast and people forecasting and levelling (PFL) for the project. This role will require the day-to-day and career management of jr. project resources to the betterment of the individuals, the project and the business.

A project manager is expected to have significant experience in project delivery and project execution methodology including an understanding of engineering, procurement, construction, contract management and project controls principles. The individual will be a key member of a new mega-project and a critical part of setting the project on a path to success. On a routine basis, the PM is responsible for project reporting within the assigned scope, the effective implementation and oversight of project governance and procedures, progress toward milestones, leadership involvement in stakeholder management, realization of project goals, and accountability for project baseline and changes.

This role will be based in Mississauga, ON.

Your role within the team:

  • Project Planning and Scope Definition: Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation. Define the project scope and deliverables in compliance with contract documents and client requirements.
  • Team Leadership and Coordination: Assemble and lead a multidisciplinary project team, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among engineers, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • People Management: Maintain supervisory org. and mange career development of assigned project resources to the betterment of the individuals, the project and the business. Assemble a project team through recruiting, interviewing and/or selecting staff with appropriate skills and establishing training and development programs suitable for the work. This generally requires close coordination with functional managers from various functions (engineering, project controls, safety, quality etc.). Make effective decisions / recommendations on human resource issues, work closely with Labour Relations as required to effectively resolve work performance issues within the project.
  • Contract and Risk Management: Manage all aspects of contract administration, including scope and change control, subcontractor and supplier management, and risk management. Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and governance. Accountable for rigorous risk analysis in accordance with corporate standards and application of industry best practice including Montecarlo methodology and contingency draw-down curves.
  • Safety and Quality Assurance: Ensure adherence to safety standards and quality requirements. Develop and enforce safety programs, training, and corrective action plans to maintain high performance standards.
  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Apply key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor project health and performance. Establish rigorous reporting protocols to meet contract, corporate, and project-specific oversight requirements.
  • Procurement and Supply Chain Management: Responsible for all contract management including scope & change control, requirements management, subcontractor and supplier management and governance for any flow-down requirements from the parent contract to subs and vendors.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the main point of contact for internal and external stakeholders. Ensure effective communication and coordination to keep all parties informed and aligned with project goals. Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, suppliers and other project stakeholders.
  • Ethical and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all project activities comply with corporate standards of ethical conduct, cyber-security, import-export regulations, intellectual property protections, and security clearance protocols.
  • Nuclear Safety: Accountable for all aspects of nuclear and industrial safety including adherence with corporate and customer safety programs, development and enforcement of necessary training and requirements, adherence to corrective action programs and enforcement of performance standards for all the above.

These responsibilities ensure that the project manager effectively leads the project from conception to completion, maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency throughout the process.

  • Technical Skills: Ability to read and understand construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications is considered an asset.
  • Project Delivery: Understanding of project delivery methodology, including earned value, critical path scheduling, prime contract and subcontract management, procurement and supply chain methodology, and inspection and test plans.
  • Safety Knowledge: Working knowledge of industrial safety and nuclear safety culture.
  • Nuclear Experience: Experience working in a nuclear environment is an asset.
  • Educational Background: BSc in Engineering or equivalent is an asset.
  • Certifications: PMP certification is an asset.
