Highways Infrastructure

As a valued member of our Transportation Highways team, you’ll gain exposure to a variety of highways projects within the local and strategic highways markets, which recently includes a large number of sustainable transport and active travel projects, transforming transport infrastructure while providing net-zero emissions.
Upon joining the highways practice, you’ll gain experience of projects at all phases of infrastructure design, from initial concept design through to detailed design and construction. We’ll empower you to develop your skills within your role; you will start by taking the role of an assistant Project Manager, supporting our Project Managers while learning how to manage finances and project programmes, communicating with our technical teams to ensure quality delivery and managing our relationships with our clients to ensure we are having the best impact on our communities.
We offer opportunities to carry out exciting secondments to gain a better understanding of the project lifecycle and we work collaboratively across the country, so you’ll be involved in projects with colleagues from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. Rail

Our team provides a range of services from design concept to early feasibility, consultancy advice for any Rail related project work, through to detailed designs and the management of on-site construction support.
Our projects include developing new stations and depot design as well as other work such as alignments for new railway corridors and renewals or enhancements of the existing network. We continuously innovate to implement journey time improvements across the high speed, heavy, metro, light rail, and tramways networks.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting the Project Manager to deliver major multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects, delivering on time and to budget.
- Producing project data to support delivery of technical projects, spreadsheets and tracking data to AtkinsRéalis Business Management System standards.
- Presenting to clients and key stakeholders in a professional, responsive and client focused manner.
- Establishing and building relationships with key clients, suppliers, contractors and internal stakeholders.
- Working collaboratively with and supporting multi-disciplinary global teams.
We’ve a broad range of clients, from local transport markets such as Transport for London and local authorities through to the UK heavy rail network such as Network Rail, Transport Scotland, HS2, Transport for the North and train operating companies. The Win Work team is an integral part of the Business Development team, working across our Transportation markets and practices to drive responsible growth. As a valued member of our team, you’ll gain exposure to the fundamentals of business development and business strategy and work with fantastic bid teams across the business. The role will allow you to develop and enhance skills which will help grow your career at AtkinsRéalis. As part of the graduate scheme, we offer exciting secondment opportunities to allow you to experience different business areas of AtkinsRéalis to further develop you professionally.
Your role will involve working with bid managers to prepare submissions, preparing research and client intelligence documents in advance of tender opportunities, contributing to the ‘smarter bidding’ drive and bidding best practice initiatives to improve quality, cost-effectiveness, system compliance and the success of all bid submissions. You will also have the opportunity to assist the Win Work team in monitoring and maintaining future pipeline in order to track longer-term business opportunities in key client and market sectors.
You will be bidding on a range of challenging and exciting infrastructure projects across the UK for our key clients such as HS2 and National Highways. We work collaboratively across the UK, so you’ll be involved in bids/projects with colleagues from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.
Central Rail Systems Alliance
Locations: Birmingham, Derby, Manchester, York

As a valued member of the Central Rail Systems Alliance (CRSA) Project Management team, you will work alongside multi-disciplinary teams to ensure major railway infrastructure projects are safely delivered to budget, quality, and timescale targets.
The Central Railway Systems Alliance (CRSA) brings together the collective strength of the four parent companies – AtkinsRéalis, Balfour Beatty, Network Rail and TSO – to develop, design and deliver rail systems renewals and railway enhancement projects across the large geographic regions of the Northwest and Central and Eastern regions, from London to the Scottish Border.
Upon joining the team, you will gain experience in budget management, project programming, report writing, supplier management, project estimating, and stakeholder management for major infrastructure projects. CRSA designs encompass all elements of the Railway System to support complex renewals of railway junctions and stations. You will gain exposure to AtkinsRéalis projects from feasibility through to construction management. This role will also enable you to build relationships with key Alliance partners and support the win work process in bid management, securing future opportunities for growth.
We will support you in your journey towards professional registration with a relevant institution and provide you with the guidance of a mentor and a graduate “buddy” to aid your growth. Railway Signalling & Telecoms - Project Delivery

As a Graduate Project Manager you will develop through a fast-tracked scheme consisting of rotational placements around the business with opportunities available in both the UK and overseas. Projects:
Airport Technology
Locations: Epsom, London. Please note that you will also be based at our client site at Heathrow airport.
Degree requirements: Achieved or on track to achieve a minimum 2:2 Bachelors degree or Masters degree in Construction Management.
Our team at Heathrow manage IT & Telecoms projects. The team consists of around 150 people and includes Project Managers, Designers, Project Engineers, Construction Managers, Support Engineers, Test & Commissioning Engineers and Project Management Office staff. The projects can range from a small network port installation to large multimillion pound projects. The technology we manage includes, but is not limited to, CCTV, Access Control, WiFi, Radar, biometrics, Passenger Flow Monitoring systems, ANPR, Display screens & Radio.
As a graduate, you will be working alongside main contractors who are responsible for the design and installation of projects. You will gain experience of all phases of design and build projects including initial concept designs, further design development, construction, test & support. Within this exciting and varied role you’ll undertake a variety of technical tasks including:
- Buildability design reviews
- Procurement & Resource planning
- HSQE/CDM
- Project Reporting
- Quality audits
- Site inspections and supervision and
- Other project related task
