The Green Line is Calgary’s largest public infrastructure project to date! Green Line will be a new system added to the current Calgary Transit LRT network, connecting more communities to safe, efficient, and affordable public transit. Phase 1 project is comprised of 13 new stations and 18 km of track and will include tunnels, bridges, park & ride facilities, and an MSF. 

The Green Line Technical Services Team is seeking an energetic, talented and skilled Project Engineer to support the design advancement and preliminary construction planning for the line.  Opportunities to contribute to the Green Line team exist in a wide range of technical disciplines, ranging from LRT systems, Systems Engineering, bridges, structures, tunnels, environment, roadways, utilities, and others. As a Project Engineer in the Green Line Technical Services Team you will support the management of overall project technical outcomes and project quality, and help to advance the project closer to construction and operation.   

Location – Calgary, AB

The position includes primarily office-based type tasks, with field site visits/audits as required. 

Your role within the team:

  • Set and maintains project schedules and budgets; makes decisions with respect to overall technical execution of the project; liaises with technical specialists or other senior project managers to ensure the technical integrity of the project.
  • Provide technical expertise for contaminated site investigation and remediation programs.
  • Interpret findings and preparation and/or review of technical reports.
  • Supervision and mentorship of junior professional staff involved in carrying out field programs, ensuring project requirements are communicated and health and safety protocols are adhered to. 
  • Actively promote Health and Safety programs and culture.
  • Participate in the preparation of proposals and cost estimates.
  • Participate in short and long range planning within assigned clients group or offices.

The ideal candidate:

  • Minimum of 8 years of environmental consulting experience with 4+ years of progressive experience encompassing project planning, coordinating and project management with emphasis in the areas of contaminated site assessment and remediation.
  • Demonstrated technical skills in field activities related to Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), including groundwater monitoring and sampling techniques, various drilling techniques, soil sample collection and logging, soil vapour sampling, remedial excavations, spill response and quality assurance / quality control protocols.
  • Experience with the interpretation of provincial and federal environmental regulations, with a strong understanding of Alberta guidelines.
  • Prepare and review site assessment report(s) to meet regulatory and other requirements, identifying potential risk and scope of further action by appropriate stakeholders, if necessary.
  • Communicate results of site assessment to stakeholders such as property owners, responsible party, regulators, the public, etc. via a public consultation or other appropriate communication process.
