Senior Environmental Planner – Ontario

Our highly respected and successful Environmental Permitting and Management team has an ever-growing portfolio of work, built on technical excellence and exceptional service to our clients, with a particular need for support on our transportation, infrastructure, and power projects.

We are looking for a Senior Environmental Planner in Ontario to support a wide variety of transportation, energy and wider infrastructure environmental assessment and planning projects. The ideal candidate must have strong work experience with environmental standards and regulations in relation to environmental assessments and permitting, be motivated and detail-oriented; experience with transportation projects is an asset. We are looking for senior level candidates with at least 15 years’ experience.

Our work includes delivering keystone projects throughout their lifecycle: from early assessment of constraints to strategic development of regulatory approvals processes, to compliance management through construction and operations. Our team works collaboratively within projects to gain social acceptance and manage our clients' commitments to the environment and sustainable development.

Your role within the team:

  • Lead, implement and manage all aspects of environmental assessments for municipal, provincial and federal processes.
  • Coordinate and guide efforts to obtain and comply with environmental approvals/permits for projects from regulatory agencies (municipal, provincial and federal).
  • Act as a project manager responsible for the development and management of scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
  • Manage the development and implementation of consultation and engagement programs.
  • Independently coordinate and manage external subcontractors.
  • Effectively delegate tasks and activities to intermediate and junior staff and providing technical and supervisory guidance on assigned tasks.
  • Assist with and, as necessary, taking a lead role in the development of proposals, qualification documents and other business development related activities.
  • Interact with clients and regulatory agencies and ministries to ensure that projects are successfully delivered within timelines.
  • Help to grow environmental planning / environmental assessment market share in strategic markets.
  • Leverage existing industry / client relationships and establish and foster new client relationships.

The ideal candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related degree.
  • A minimum of 15 years of related experience in managing/coordinating environmental assessments and securing construction permits/approvals, particularly within the transportation sector.
  • Solid understanding of regulatory frameworks, including for transportation projects.
  • Demonstrable experience working with MTO projects is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience with environmental project management fundamentals including cost control, scope management and scheduling.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, including the ability to manage multiple assignments at one time.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced engineering or environmental consulting environment.
  • Full or Provisional membership in a professional body is an asset (e.g. RPP, PMP, EP).
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
