We are hiring! AtkinsRéalis is seeking a National Wastewater Treatment Lead to join our team. We are open on where this role can be located. Options include, Atlanta GA, Orlando FL, Henderson NV, Austin or Houston TX, and Alexandria VA offices. This is a hybrid role (combination of work remotely and in office weekly). This individual will be the national technical leader for wastewater treatment projects. The focus of this role is to provide project management and technical leadership on major municipal wastewater projects across the US.

How will you contribute to the team?

  • Primary responsibilities include leading multidisciplinary teams to deliver system/facility planning, process optimization and engineering for conventional and advanced wastewater treatment facilities, technical services for solids handling/biosolids facilities, effluent conversion to potable water, and related regulatory advisory services.
  • Provides technical leadership on projects and strategic pursuits and select initiatives and providing technical mentorship to wastewater treatment engineers.
  • Establishes technical criteria on projects related to wastewater treatment and provides technical input/direction to project managers and team members.
  • Conducts quality control checks, reviews calculations, designs, evaluations, and specifications developed by design staff for accuracy and completeness, performs site inspections and reviews, and conducts or oversees remedial design work.
  • Designs and directs complex research efforts within the field of wastewater treatment.
  • Defines scope and budget of projects, with full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, and executing project assignments. Assists management in conducting project review audits involving wastewater treatment.
  • Selects problems for investigation, developing novel approaches and solutions to technical problems.
  • Develops exhibits, abstracts, presentations, and/or technical papers with Clients and internal staff for publication in technical journals and presentations at technical conferences, both national and local.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of in-house technical project delivery programs and coordinates with staff managers to selectively involve and educate engineering staff in these in-house programs as well as in outside technical development opportunities (conferences, seminars, etc.)
  • Provides technical leadership on projects, strategic pursuits and select initiatives. Defines and reviews scope and budget for wastewater projects.
  • Coordinates with project leads to identify staffing needs, deficiencies and opportunities for recruitment in technical specialty area. Assists in the identification, screening, recruitment and orientation of qualified candidates to fill key vacancies within the wastewater treatment field.
  • Performs such other duties as this role’s supervisor, the National Water Infrastructure Technical Director, may from time to time deem necessary.

What will you contribute?

  • M.S. in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering from an ABET accredited program, Ph.D. with an emphasis on biological wastewater treatment process is preferred.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one state with ability to obtain license in other states in a timely manner (within 6 months of need arising) as projects dictate.
  • Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 15 years of progressive technical design experience within the consulting industry.
  • Experience with biological process modeling and simulation software.
  • Experience with biological process operation and troubleshooting.
  • Experience and interest in pursuing leadership opportunities within professional associations.
  • Experience with successful pursuit of projects and research grants related to biological wastewater treatment processes and technology.
  • Experience in giving presentations for clients and professional organizations.
  • Credentials to support technical competence and knowledge of relevant issues facing the wastewater treatment industry.
  • Affiliation and active participation with organizations such as Water Environment Federation.
  • Excellent speaking, presenting, and writing skills
  • Ability to travel locally and nationally as needed.
  • Special skills:
    • Strong technical background and experience in wastewater treatment facilities.
    • Candidates must thrive in a team environment and have proven interpersonal skills, public speaking and persuasive ability.
    • Local, regional and/or national recognition as an industry leader with a publication record, engagement in national associations, and conference presentation experience a plus.

Expected compensation range is between $110,000 - $183,000 annually OR $70.00 - $87.00 hourly depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
