Insights Meet two of our award winning Apprentices at AtkinsRéalis
National Apprenticeship Week celebrates the impact of Apprenticeships on individuals, employers and the economy.
At AtkinsRéalis, we proudly introduce you to two of our remarkable award-winning Apprentices, individuals who epitomize the spirit of dedication, learning, and achievement within our organization.
These Apprentices represent the diverse talents and skills that Apprenticeships cultivate, embodying the core values and ethos of AtkinsRéalis.
Their journeys are a testament to the power of Apprenticeships in shaping successful careers and contributing to a thriving economy.
Meet Jordan Larkin: Driving Engineering Excellence
Jordan Larkin, a dedicated Highways Technician, has been an integral part of the AtkinsRéalis team since July 2018.
Her exceptional contributions and commitment were recognized when she was awarded the prestigious Apprentice of the Year prize at the North East Process & Innovation Cluster (NEPIC) awards in January.
Project Ventures and Rapid Growth
Since her initiation into the AtkinsRéalis family, Jordan has left her mark on significant engineering ventures, notably the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon improvement and the M18 to M62 upgrade.
Her involvement in such large-scale projects showcases her engineering prowess and adaptability.
A Scholar and a Mentor
Jordan's enthusiasm for learning has propelled her swiftly through the realm of Civil Engineering.
In 2018, she was honoured with the esteemed Institution of Civil Engineering (ICE) Quest Scholarship, a testament to her leadership qualities, determination, ambition, and ability to think and act independently.
Embracing Skills Beyond Engineering
“Not only have my engineering skills developed but so have my people skills,” Jordan remarks.
Beyond refining her engineering skills, she has honed her interpersonal abilities.
She has also found the time to become involved in STEM activities, is an active member of the ICE, mentors fellow Apprentices and promotes Apprenticeships and engineering to young females.
“These are things I would have never thought about before but things I really enjoy,” says Jordan.
Aspirations and Endeavors
Working on expansive projects for eminent clients like Highways England fuels Jordan's passion.
Her short-term goals are focused on academic and professional achievements: attaining a 2:1 in her degree and achieving Incorporated Engineer status from ICE.
“I love working for a global and prestigious company with a good reputation. I hope to one day become a chartered engineer and explore other opportunities within the business.”
Jordan exemplifies the ethos of AtkinsRéalis, embodying the values of continuous growth, dedication, and a commitment to fostering the next generation of engineers.
Her journey showcases the remarkable opportunities that we offer for aspiring professionals in engineering.
Meet Jack Taylor: Navigating the Aerospace & Technology Terrain
Jack Taylor (pictured above on the left), a dedicated Degree Apprentice in Aerospace, Defence, Security, and Technology (ADS&T), commenced his journey with AtkinsRéalis in August 2017.
His early months were spent away from his home office in Bristol, delving into a blend of first-year degree modules and a Practical Engineering Operations (PEO) course.
A Journey from Aspiration to Reality
Halfway through studying for his A-Levels, Jack knew he wanted to get into the world of work. “I never visualised myself as a full-time student, I wanted to be able to apply what I was being taught to the real world,” says Jack.
The allure of the AtkinsRéalis Apprenticeship scheme, offering a blend of real-world application and learning, captivated him.
The strong sense of community at AtkinsRéalis resonated with his aspiration to immerse himself in a dynamic environment and challenge conventional norms.
Nurturing Growth and Knowledge
Jack's journey at AtkinsRéalis has seen him engage in a spectrum of projects, from web and application development to crafting pipelines for build automation and deployment, serving diverse clients.
The close-knit collaboration with colleagues has significantly enriched his technical acumen. He appreciates how their comprehensive understanding makes tackling complex issues not only manageable but intriguing.
Cultivating Soft Skills and Professionalism
Recognised for his contributions within the ADS&T young professionals forum, Jack attributes much of his personal growth to honing soft skills and mastering the art of presenting himself as a young professional.
He believes that developing his soft skills and learning how to present himself as a young professional has been instrumental in his own personal development. His ultimate goal is to achieve chartered status, but he also hopes that one day he can mentor other Apprentices and maybe even manage a team of engineers.
Jack Taylor exemplifies the ethos of AtkinsRéalis by showcasing the journey of a young professional navigating the dynamic aerospace and technology landscape.
His story echoes the value AtkinsRéalis places on practical learning, community, and fostering the growth of aspiring engineers.
