Our expert team specializes in managing environmental liability through comprehensive site investigations, risk assessments, and customized remediation and risk management plans. As environmental professionals, we are unique in that we support all sectors across AtkinsRéalis from transportation, infrastructure, water, power & renewables, and many more. 

We are seeking an Environmental Scientist or Engineer-in-Training to support project managers with a variety of environmental management and contaminated sites projects in either our North York or Ancaster, Ontario offices. 

This is an excellent opportunity a new graduate or someone with 1 to 2 years’ of environmental site assessment and remediation experience looking to advance their career in a consulting environment. Key tasks include but are not limited to field investigations including groundwater and surface water sampling and monitoring; surveying; soil sampling; drilling and well installation; data entry and interpretation, remediation system operation and maintenance, assisting with planning and coordination, and report writing.

The ideal candidate:

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in Earth Sciences or Engineering (Environmental, Civil or Geological) is preferred.
  • Ideal candidates will possess 1 to 2 years of direct or related experience, in the areas of contaminated site investigation and remediation programs including Phase 1/Stage 1 investigations, field investigation and monitoring programs, field management and coordination of contractors during site investigations and remedial programs, report writing and interpretation of provincial and federal environmental regulations.
  • Additional experience in mining reclamation/remediation or human and ecological risk assessment would also be a benefit.
  • Self-motivated, independent worker with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time and multiple projects appropriately.
  • Willing to undertake field work year-round and travel throughout Ontario, sometimes for extended periods. 
  • Excellent judgement and creative problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to undertake work requiring moderate physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces, lifting, recurring bending or similar activities. 
  • Strong verbal and written communicative skills are essential.

Applicants not meeting all the direct experience requirements in environmental work but having a strong background or education in a related field (such as geotechnical engineering, environmental auditing, or remediation systems design and management) are also encouraged to apply.
