AtkinsRéalis are looking to recruit innovative architects and designers to be part of our Glasgow office-based Scotland & the North architectural practice. AtkinsRéalis is more than just engineering, we are a top 10 UK based global design Practice whose reputation is built on a culture of open collaboration, creating and delivering excellence in all we do. As a RIBA Registered Practice, we employ over 450 Architectural staff across the UK working on project across the globe. Our diverse, highly skilled, passionate designers are unified with a belief – good design can positively transform people's lives.

Our expertise ranges across all key sectors and aspects of the built environment. We are recognised leaders in the creation and delivery of environments, buildings and places that are good for people and improve our environment. We have over 25 architectural staff in our Glasgow office with a particular expertise in Education, Commercial, Energy, Defence and Residential. Architectural staff include Architects, Architectural technologists, Interior Designers, Landscape Architects and Building Surveying professionals with a balanced team of graduates through to senior professionals and directors. People are the heart of our success and supporting, training and mentoring our staff is paramount to AtkinsRéalis remaining at the forefront of design and innovation. AtkinsRéalis Architects are very interested in harnessing the creative power of individuals who would like to be involved in exciting projects with the company.

We are looking to recruit an Associate Director Architect, to further expand our studio in Glasgow. This opportunity would ideally suit someone looking to work in a multi-disciplinary collaborative environment where they will be given the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and to take real responsibility throughout the full design lifecycle, and lead and manage our team of Architects and designers. We work on several projects across sectors including education, regeneration, commercial, transport, energy, defence, as well as heritage and urban redevelopment. Our breadth of work across these sectors means there are plenty of opportunities to gain vast amounts of experience as well as offering the opportunity to find your niche! Your role

  • To manage and inspire a team through strong and inclusive leadership.
  • Sustaining and developing relationships with existing and new clients.
  • To ensure design responses are pragmatic and respond to the client briefly.
  • whilst respecting the opportunities and constraints that each site affords, through climate, context and culture.
  • To continue to develop designs that are firmly rooted with a strong narrative and that seek to enhance our reputation.
  • Lead projects by providing design and technical leadership for major projects.
  • Reporting on activity and analysis of feedback and success factors.
  • Development of the design culture and capability of our multi-disciplinary design team(s).

About you

  • We are looking for an individual with a proven track record in a leadership role.
  • Design and Business Development, having a proven track record of developing client relationships, leading bid opportunities and securing new business.
  • Track record of successfully delivering complex projects.
  • Accredited Conservation Architect would be preferable but not essential.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
  • You will have a RIBA Part 3 qualification, be an ARB registered with experience on a wide range of complex projects at different stages with a good understanding of the UK / Scottish Building Regulations.
  • The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the Studios Senior Leadership team, managing our team and developing work winning opportunities.
  • You will have experience across different sectors and provide a track record of designing and delivery sector led schemes from inception to completion whilst leading multi-disciplinary teams, providing contractor interface and acting as the main client contact.
  • Highly skilled and passionate designer committed to deliver design excellence at all stages of the design and construction process.
  • Be proficient in using design software, specifically looking for experience with Revit, Adobe suite, Enscape or V-Ray and AutoCAD.
  • We are looking for individuals who can consistently contribute to the successful delivery of complex, small, medium, and large-scale projects, and have a track record of managing teams and planning resources.
  • A flexible approach to working with a positive and 'can-do' attitude, self-motivated and committed individual who can be both clear thinkers but have the willingness to be a strong team player.
