Instrumentation and Controls Engineer – Waste Management and Vacuum Drying Equipment

Your role

  • Work independently or under the direction/guidance of a Senior Engineer or Technical Lead.
  • Contribute to the design and development of I&C systems for new designs and/or enhancements to CANDU Retube Waste Handling and Vacuum Drying Equipment.
  • Perform conceptual and/or detailed design of instrumentation and control systems and modifications thereof, including definition of system functional and performance requirements and control algorithms, definition of control logic and wiring arrangements, control parameters, setpoints, instrument ranges.
  • Perform specification, sizing, and selection for various types of I&C components, and produce component related documentation (e.g., assessment documents, setpoint calculations, error analyses).
  • Update and/or prepare design documents (e.g., Design Calculations, Design Requirements, Elementary/Wiring Diagrams, Bills of Materials, Technical Specifications).
  • Prepare and/or review Purchase Requisitions and Tender Technical Evaluations.
  • Review and comment on supplier Manufacturing, Inspection and Test Plans (MITPs), Engineering Drawings, and other Design Basis documentation.
  • Respond to supplier manufacturing questions or issues/NCRs.
  • Interface with various internal engineering disciplines/support services and with external suppliers.
  • Manage assigned work effectively, including prioritizing, executing, and reporting, to meet project goals.
  • This position could include some travel to various locations in China and Canada or other countries where manufacturing activities occur.

About you

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario.
  • Bachelor of Engineering degree from an accredited University in Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 6-10 years of experience in electrical design/analysis, preferably providing design solutions for CANDU nuclear reactor components or refurbishment equipment.
  • Experience performing work to nuclear grade procedures and practices is an asset.
  • Experience producing electrical engineering drawings (any relevant industry).
  • Experience performing I&C design analysis and calculations (any relevant industry).
  • Experience with supporting manufacturing/fabrication activities (e.g., troubleshooting, non-conformance disposition, design changes/deviations).
  • Working knowledge of/experience using nuclear Codes and Standards, including IEEE, ASME B31.1, CSA C22.1, CSA B51, CSA N286, and CSA N299 is an asset.
  • Familiarity with I&C system functions, configurations and equipment as used for CANDU plant process systems, safety systems, or safety-related systems, or for similar systems in other industries is an asset.
  • Demonstrate good technical skills and problem-solving capabilities and be able to seek practical solutions to engineering problems, with keen attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
