Overview

Our Nuclear and Power division is a leading consultancy providing multi-disciplinary engineering support services to all project stages, from concept through to completion, to owners, operators, regulators and suppliers to a diversified set of clients. Within the Nuclear sector, we're involved across the whole life cycle of the civil nuclear industry, building the next generation of civil nuclear power stations and the first large scale prototype fusion reactor, meeting the challenge of keeping the current nuclear fleet operational and tackling complex decommissioning projects. With existing relationships with the major operators in the Nuclear and Power sector, we offer a hugely stimulating variety of work, within a team which is rapidly developing to support the delivery of new nuclear build, maintaining the existing nuclear and power generating assets and building net zero energy capabilities. Our projects are on a global scale with opportunities across the UK, Europe, North America, Canada and the Middle East, across a range of projects.

To meet the increasing demand of our expertise in the nuclear industry and renewables sector, now we have opportunities for Junior C&I Engineers with experience ranging from 8-12 years, with demonstratable experience in C&I engineering to join the Nuclear & Power team at our AtkinsRéalis India offices.

We are particularly interested in individuals with reasonable consultancy/contracting experience. The person should be experienced in technically leading delivery of multi-disciplinary project. Previous power, oil and gas or nuclear experience is desirable, but not essential, particularly with suitable demonstration of experience in a highly regulated industry (e.g. Oil and Gas, Pharmaceutical).

Your role

  • The work is varied and may include some or all of the responsibilities mentioned below:
  • Design and development of engineering project pertaining to C&I design through concept, FEED, Basic Engineering to Detail engineering.
  • Preparation of technical concept reports by having clear understanding on customer's needs and working with other disciplines and global offices.
  • Preparation of other design deliverables essential during concept, feasibility, optioneering, design development stages.
  • Technical and team leadership.
  • Check, review and develop various instrument deliverables of the project including input/output list, instrument list, instrument data sheets, and functional specifications, their assessment and justification.
  • Development of control system specification and its system architecture
  • Development of Control and Protection philosophy of plant.
  • Preparation of Cause & Effect diagrams and control function diagrams.
  • Equipment/Instrument selection and procurement, identification of all safety (nuclear and operational) requirements.
  • Production of vendor packages, coordination with manufacturer/contractor, review of vendor drawings/documents.
  • Liaising with all stakeholders and responsible for all technical issues related to their area of specialization; Co-ordination with other discipline specialists where areas interface or overlap exist.
  • Preparation of instrument specifications, loop diagrams and cabling schematics, schedules and location layouts
  • Participation in 3D model review and other design reviews of the project.
  • Estimation of costs and delivery of the work package within required timescales
  • Design/selection of PLCs/DCS/Data Processing Systems / Process Control High Integrity Plant Protection Systems.
  • Production of deliverables such as various design documentation, requirement specification and substantiation reports.
  • Co-ordination with other discipline specialists where areas interface or overlap exist.

About you

  • Candidate should possess the following qualifications, skills and experience.
  • Suitable degree in Control and Instrumentation with domain experience in energy systems. Experience in detail engineering consultancy is preferred. 12- 18 years of work experience in the Control and Instrumentation engineering.
  • Experience in Nuclear, Power, Oil & Gas or other highly regulated industrial environment preferred.
  • Experience of working on UK, Canada, USA and Middle East project
  • Experience of Process Control & Instrumentation/Reactor Protection and Regulation system design.
  • Knowledge of Power Plant design and various systems associated with power plant i.e, Boiler, Turbine, Generator and Balance of Plant systems.
  • Commissioning experience will be an added advantage.
  • Understanding of project lifecycle and various stages of engineering project.
  • Knowledge of safety systems/high integrity systems/equipment, automation system design.
  • Knowledge of functional safety and its relevant industrial standards i.e. IEC 61508, 61511, 61513, know-how for SIL categorisation/ Integrity Targets and safety life cycle.
  • Development of Safety Requirement Specification, Functional Safety Management Plan, RAM analysis, Fault Tree Analysis.
  • Participation in various SIL Studies, LOPA and HAZOP
  • Working knowledge of field instrumentation including datasheets and hook-up drawings.
  • Understanding and knowledge about control valve and flow element sizing
  • Preparation of Control Logic Diagram, Loop Diagrams, Instrument Location and Instrument Installation Design.
  • Development of specification for PLC/SCADA/DCS and knowledge related to its Hardware and Software configuration.
  • Development of Control System Architecture for the entire plant.
  • Good understanding in Operational Technology (OT) Cybersecurity principles, able to understand the design concepts relevant to mitigate and prevent the exploitation of plant control system.
  • Good knowledge of Hazardous Area Classification and various protections.
  • Good knowledge of industrial communication standard protocols
  • Knowledge to Plant 3D model software, Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI) and AVEVA.
  • Design knowledge of access control system, CCTV system, telephone, and PA system.
  • Working knowledge of cabling systems which include cable block diagrams, cable schedules, cable routing drawings, schematics, termination schedules and cable specifications.
  • Takes responsibility for nuclear safety with the ability to challenge appropriately.
  • Good working knowledge of industry standards, design and installation codes of practice and regulations.
  • A flair for solving complex problems from first principles and the ability to deliver multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Has the ability to generate cost effective ideas at various project stages.
  • Has the acumen of bringing on table digital innovative ideas benefitting the team and organization.
  • Strong delivery culture, and maintenance of strict timelines.
  • Proven computer aptitude, and expertise in MS office; Knowledge of AutoCAD and Visio desirable.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of multidisciplinary design projects, and relevant knowledge of site operations of process plant is desirable.
  • Having good knowledge in Technical Report writing
  • Participates in client and internal design reviews.
  • Ability to understand and define client's requirements, plan & schedule deliverables, timelines.
  • Strong delivery culture, ability to multi-task, resource management, delegate tasks, develop and deliver cost/time-effective solutions.
  • Experience supporting construction and commissioning phases.
  • Experience or exposure to project management principles is desirable.
  • Ability to understand and define client's requirements, plan & schedule deliverables, timelines.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and support them with technical guidance.
  • Ability to lead the entire project independently with minimum guidance and support.
  • Proven strong problem solving, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills with a proven ability to write accurate, detailed and concise technical reports.
  • Flexible to relocate to AtkinsRéalis India Office Locations (Bangalore/Gurgaon/Mumbai) flexible in travelling to AtkinsRéalis' and client's'office locations around the world, if required.
  • Experienced and innovative team player with the ability to work on own initiative and to take responsibility for the development and supervision of design projects.
