Mechanical BIM lead- Assistant Technical Manager

Overview

AtkinsRéalis Global Technology Centre (GTC) Middle East Business is looking to appoint a MEP BIM Lead Designer / Assistant Technical Manager to support the delivery of complex Mechanical engineering and multidisciplinary designs across a range of major projects.

As the MEP BIM Lead/ Assistant Technical Manager you will lead a large team of BIM engineers and modelers with the responsibility for guiding this team on all technical matters and perform multi discipline design management and coordination. You will be an experienced practitioner of BIM / Digital technologies, with proven track record of applying these technologies to develop engineering solutions.

This key post will be based on Cairo where we have thriving AtkinsRéalis office, which serve all AtkinsRéalis regions across the world. Our portfolio of work continues to grow, and we will offer a challenging and rewarding opportunity to apply knowledge, experience and problem-solving skills.

Your role

  • MEP BIM lead experience working on multi-D projects.

  • Should have in depth knowledge on MEP systems and how its constructed in site.

  • Should have in-depth knowledge on all the latest CDE's.

  • Should have in-depth knowledge on ISO19650.

  • To collaborate with Designers, BIM leads, Planners to ensure alignment and quality BIM models.

  • Develop documentation required to support the implementation and progression of 3D & 4D BIM.

  • Promote the Digital Rehearsal process.

  • Work closely with the Designers and BIM teams and Planners to ensure to deliver quality 3D intelligent models and plans are adequately developed to facilitate optimal 3D, 4D & 5D modelling.

  • Be familiar with other methods of visualization; Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality.

  • Should be well versed with Revit MEP & AutoCAD and able to mentor team.

  • Follow firm-wide BIM/CAD Standards, procedures and guidelines that conform to international standards, our firm's culture, and the emerging best practices.

  • Model/drawing set-up and organize.

  • Preparing 3D REVIT MEP Models, Families and Schedules.

  • Ability to create Parametric Components and vary the value of parameters assigned to groups.

  • Coordinate MEP Models with Structural and Architectural Model.

  • Able to coordinate and analyse REVIT/Navisworks clash detection reports and correct issues.

  • Coordinates work with other disciplines including Electrical, Architectural, Structural and Interior Design.

  • Prepares detailed equipment room layouts, detailed riser diagrams, plot files, PDF's, partplans.

  • Highlights completed mark-ups and return drawings to Engineer/Manager. Prints drawing sets as requested.

  • Checks drawings for quality control using standard checklist, as appropriate.

  • Maintains design files in an organized and up-to-date fashion in accordance with company standards.

  • Communicates regularly with team to ensure schedules are met.

  • Identifies and reports to Manager any project related quality, speed or scheduling issues.

Digital Skills:

  • Drive technical excellence in Digital production/delivery.

  • Support the transition away from using Revit as merely a production/drafting package to a platform that is leveraged for design /engineering (and one that the team lives & breathes).

  • Promote and cultivate a more progressive style of design and communication within the team (using alternative digital tools - Rhino/ Grasshopper/CFD/Adobe Suite).

  • Dramatically enhance the output of deliverables (visually & speed of service) putting us on a level playing field with our architectural colleagues.

  • Promote the team's'emerging digital initiative within AtkinsRéalis and externally, with an eye to winning work based on the developing capability and enhancing the brand.

  • Seek opportunities to cultivate talent within the MEP team and forge partnerships with AtkinsRéalis' architectural offering (but also key clients/ external design teams).

  • Encourage an early stage holistic/ "systems thinking" ethos that sees us delivering value throughout design phases.

About you

Required skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Engineering with minimum 10-15 years of relevant experience.

  • Knowledge of multidisciplinary and multiregional project to comply with the relevant CAD/BIM Standard.

  • Ability to read & interpret engineering drawings & specifications.

  • Ability to work using Engineers calculations and design in producing drawings / 3D modelling.

  • Knowledge of Building design processes working within a multiple discipline engineering environment, and within a project and commercially focused business.

  • Identify, interpret and apply required industry/ client/ internal CAD/BIM standards. To ensure that our finished product is Project, Client and BIM compliant.

  • Work independently and take proactive initiative.

  • Self-motivated development.

  • Competent to check the work.

  • Able to present / represent their technical work.

  • Working knowledge of standard codes and EDMS (Electronic Data Management System.

  • Shows flexibility in work tasks and locations.

  • Responsible for completion of specifically assigned tasks to time and cost.

  • Required Skills for Digital Part.

  • A thorough understanding of the data, information management and BIM including compliance to ISO 19650 standards.

  • Sound knowledge in engineering design and to assist design team in Self/Inter disciplinary.

  • Expert knowledge of BIM authoring tools from various software providers such as Autodesk, Bentley in delivery of multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Expert knowledge of model federation and co-ordination platforms such as Navisworks, Revizto, BIM Track (New forma Konekt) for performing tasks like clash detection and resolution, model walkthrough and issue tracking and management.

  • Expert knowledge of Common Data Environment (CDE) such as BIM360, ACC and ProjectWise.

  • Knowledge of automation tools such as Dynamo.

  • Ability to develop technical documentation for Information Management/BIM.

  • Experienced in implementation, training and utilization of Information Management tools from Autodesk, Bentley, Trimble etc.

  • Effective communication, coordination and collaboration skills.

  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

  • Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Professional accreditation to the level of an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer or working towards professional qualifications.

  • Must be an advanced user or expert user in Autodesk Navisworks with capabilities to federate individual discipline BIM Models. Setup, maintain and run clash rules and clash tests across federated BIM Models. Must know how to create search sets, query, find and navigate through BIM Models.

  • Must be able to use Navisworks to generate clash results, manage clash resolution, redline BIM Models, capture viewpoints and cascade reports to discipline teams. Must be able to perform Navisworks model management.

  • Computational / Generative design tool experience such as Autodesk Dynamo or Grasshopper / Rhino.

  • Technical proficiency in the use of the latest common CDE systems: Bentley ProjectWise and Autodesk BIM360.
