Senior Mechanical Engineer (Healthcare)

North York, Ontario, Canada

Overview

Our Infrastructure Engineering Group in North York, Ontario is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead our Mechanical Healthcare team. In this role you will be responsible for mentoring and guiding staff in their training and career development journey as well as delivering the financial and strategic goals of your team. You will direct work activities, make assignments and coordinate the activities of the group. Your team will rely on your depth of experience to resolve some of the most challenging problems that arise. You and your team will be responsible for the execution of projects ranging in size and complexity, with a focus on healthcare projects. The successful candidate will also be responsible for developing and maintaining new and existing clients, coordinating skill sets with other offices and disciplines, and satisfying customer requirements.

Your role

  • Provide leadership through client development, project management, team leadership and project control.
  • Conceptual design, preparation and review of relevant documentation, providing guidance to designers and CADD / REVIT operators, and preparation of final technical reports.
  • May be required to provide detailed design information to other project managers to allow timely and accurate completion of those projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary design teams to ensure a timely and accurate completion of projects.
  • Preparation of proposals, data sheets, specifications, packages, and technical bid evaluations.
  • Supporting and initiating business development activities for the Mechanical Engineering group in Toronto.
  • Participate in the strategic planning process and the establishment and implementation of strategic initiatives.
  • Actively develop and maintain important client relationships as part of overall business strategy.
  • Apply Project Management principles on management of own projects and of team members.
  • Managing the departmental resource assignment for the appropriate projects staffing while ensuring continuous development of staff.
  • Recruiting new team members, conducting performance reviews, performance management, and facilitating training and development opportunities.
  • Providing mentoring, coaching, technical guidance and quality assurance, to Mechanical Engineers to ensure the technical adequacy of all mechanical engineering work.
  • Participating in the preparation of estimates and project proposals (or coordinating resources to do so) and approving the estimates for Mechanical Engineering.
  • Maintaining good working relationships with internal stakeholders, the management team, and clients.
  • Accountable to ensure that all employees in the group are properly qualified and trained to perform their work.
  • Ensure the quality and consistency, accuracy, and neatness of Mechanical Engineering and deliverables as part of corporate QA/QC program.
  • Proven record of a strong client focus including Business Development, Marketing, and responding to RFPs.
  • Achieve results including the ability to manage multiple priorities and time lines.
  • A strong leader with proven skills in motivating and engaging a team with demonstrated strength in leading highly complex groups..

About you

  • University Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • 15+ years of relevant building systems design experience a must.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience working with relevant codes including, OBC and NBC.
  • Must have 10+ years of experience in HVAC, plumbing, medical gases and fire protection design for hospitals / healthcare, along with consulting engineering experience in the buildings industry.
  • Supervisory background and proven leadership skills.
  • AutoCAD and BIM - Revit software experience is an asset.
  • Familiar with heating/cooling load analysis and energy calculation software.
  • An excellent written and verbal communicator with superior interpersonal, organizational and relationship management skills.
  • Commitment to working in a team environment.
  • Experience in public-private partnership (PPP or P3) projects is an asset.

Expected compensation for this role is between Pay Range $120,000 - $160,000 annually (Only Applicable to Ontario).
