Overview

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Technical Director to provide technical leadership across major multidisciplinary projects involving public venues, amphitheatres, cultural assets, complex buildings, and long-span structures. This role requires an accomplished engineering professional with extensive experience in both the design and construction phases of large-scale projects, capable of leading multidisciplinary teams and resolving complex technical challenges throughout the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will be a recognized technical leader, offering strategic direction, engineering excellence, and client-focused solutions while supporting business growth and project delivery objectives. Preference will be given to candidates with experience delivering public venues, amphitheatre facilities, performance venues, stadiums, or similar complex assembly buildings.

Your Role

Sector Experience

  • Proven track record in the design and delivery of major multidisciplinary projects, including complex buildings and long-span structures.

  • Experience working on public venues, amphitheatres, theatres, cultural facilities, stadiums, convention centres, or similar complex environments.

  • Strong understanding of multidisciplinary coordination across structural, architectural, MEP, infrastructure, acoustics, specialist systems, and venue operations.

  • Demonstrated experience managing technical interfaces throughout both design and construction stages.

  • Proven ability to solve complex engineering and technical challenges while maintaining programme, cost, and quality objectives.

Strategic Leadership

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the technical and operational strategy for major projects and programmes.

  • Provide technical leadership and oversight across multidisciplinary design and construction teams.

  • Support the alignment of project objectives with business goals, client requirements, and delivery strategies.

  • Promote a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and continuous improvement across all project activities.

  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients, project leadership teams, and internal stakeholders.

Technical Leadership & Engineering Excellence

  • Serve as the technical authority for complex engineering solutions, design reviews, and technical governance.

  • Lead technical decision-making on major multidisciplinary projects and ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.

  • Review and challenge design solutions to optimize performance, constructability, safety, operational functionality, and lifecycle value.

  • Provide expert guidance on long-span structures, complex building systems, and specialist venue requirements.

  • Apply strong analytical skills to identify risks, assess alternatives, and develop practical technical solutions.

  • Manage and resolve technical issues during design, procurement, construction, testing, and handover stages.

Design Management & Coordination

  • Lead multidisciplinary design integration across architectural, structural, MEP, infrastructure, and specialist disciplines.

  • Ensure successful coordination between internal teams, external consultants, contractors, and specialist suppliers.

  • Oversee design reviews and technical assurance processes to maintain quality and compliance.

  • Drive best practices in digital delivery, BIM implementation, and multidisciplinary coordination.

  • Ensure design outputs meet client expectations, operational requirements, and project objectives.

Project Management

  • Support the successful delivery of projects from concept development through construction and handover.

  • Monitor technical performance, programme milestones, and project delivery risks.

  • Provide technical input to project budgets, schedules, procurement strategies, and resource planning.

  • Maintain commercial awareness with an understanding of change control, risk management, and project governance.

  • Support delivery teams in achieving client satisfaction and project profitability objectives.

Business Development

  • Support the identification and pursuit of strategic business opportunities.

  • Contribute technical leadership to proposals, bids, client presentations, and project pursuits.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, industry partners, and technical authorities.

  • Support market growth within the public venues, cultural, sports, and complex buildings sectors.

  • Act as a visible technical leader in industry forums and client engagements.

Risk Management & Technical Governance

  • Establish and maintain robust technical governance and assurance frameworks.

  • Identify technical risks early and implement mitigation strategies throughout project delivery.

  • Review technical compliance, quality standards, and assurance requirements across projects.

  • Support dispute resolution and technical issue management when required.

  • Ensure lessons learned and best practices are incorporated into future project delivery.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary teams of engineers, designers, and technical specialists.

  • Promote professional development, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning.

  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive working environment.

  • Support succession planning and development of future technical leaders.

  • Inspire teams through strong leadership, technical credibility, and clear communication

Client Management

  • Serve as a senior technical representative with clients and key stakeholders.

  • Lead technical workshops, presentations, design reviews, and stakeholder meetings.

  • Build trust through the delivery of high-quality technical solutions and engineering excellence.

  • Support long-term client relationships and repeat business opportunities.

  • Provide strategic advice to clients on complex technical and delivery challenges.

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Building Services, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline.

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer (CEng), or equivalent professional registration is required.

  • Minimum 15+ years of post-graduate engineering experience, including significant experience leading multidisciplinary design and construction teams.

  • Extensive experience on major projects involving complex buildings, public venues, cultural assets, amphitheatres, stadiums, or long-span structures.

  • Strong technical knowledge across multidisciplinary engineering design and construction processes.

  • Proven ability to analyse, manage, and resolve complex technical challenges.

  • Demonstrated experience in multidisciplinary coordination and technical leadership.

  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project delivery, risk management, and change control.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, negotiation, and leadership skills.

  • Ability to build strong relationships internally and externally while acting as a trusted technical advisor.

  • Experience in the Middle East region is desirable.
