Overview
AtkinsRéalis is one of Canada's largest private sector nuclear engineering groups. We have been providing a wide range of services to the nuclear industry in Canada and around the world since for more than 60 years. We are proud to be the steward of Canadian CANDU nuclear technology.
Candu Energy Inc., an AtkinsRéalis company has entered into an agreement with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to deliver the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP). The project is spearheading the deployment of the BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR), the first of its kind built in the western hemisphere, and due to be on the grid by the end of this decade. We are looking for individuals with a strong technical understanding and leadership to support ongoing construction activities.
The Field Technical Specialist (FTS) team operates as a critical interface between construction and site engineering office to facilitate efficiency in both the dissemination of technical information to construction and conversely construction information to site engineering. While the FTS organization does not possess design change authority, FTS perform much of the work face conveyance of information to support a design change. They also support the interpretation of technical information where required by the construction craft.
The Technical Manager for the FTS team provides functional management oversight and technical guidance (as required) to the multi-disciplinary team. The Technical Manager interfaces with operational stakeholders (Area Leads, Bundle Leads, Construction) to ensure adequate execution and resourcing strategies.
This role would require extensive time in a major industrial green field construction site environment. The team comprises Field Technical Specialists with following knowledge areas: Civil/Structural/Architectural, Mechanical (e.g. piping, equipment), Process Systems (e.g. liquid, air, thermal, HVAC), Electrical, Field Instrumentation
Your role
- Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team of Field Technical Specialists, ensuring effective coordination for complex site and field activities.
- Develop, implement, and enforce governance frameworks, procedures, and work instructions to maintain compliance and operational consistency.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, project partners, and technical groups to ensure field tasks meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical direction to field teams while developing and executing staffing strategies aligned with project needs.
- Oversee team performance through coaching, monitoring, and formal reviews, while supporting skill development through training and mentorship.
- Maintain a strong job site presence, coordinate with operational stakeholders on resource execution, and identify opportunities for process improvements and cost efficiencies.
