Overview
This role is based in Whitehaven, Cumbria and requires a strong background working on or with the Sellafield site. Operating within the Technology Integration / Digital Products & Deployment function, the Technology Deployment Lead plays a pivotal part in enabling AtkinsRéalis' purpose: engineering a better future for the planet and its people. As the nuclear sector faces some of the most complex challenges of our generation, this role supports the safe, economically viable and forward‑looking delivery of nuclear energy and its legacy.
Across decommissioning and major programmes, AtkinsRéalis—working closely with Sellafield—is leading the deployment of innovative technologies across the site. The digital, products and technology team has delivered first‑of‑a‑kind solutions, ranging from mobile robotics to cloud architectures, continually balancing the demands of security with operational accessibility. As these technologies progress beyond proof of concept and into business‑as‑usual deployment, the organisation needs leaders who can navigate the regulated environment and realise the value of transformative technology. This role is designed for someone who can help shift traditional operational models into digitally enabled, future‑ready ways of working, and who can shape and drive the digital strategy that underpins this evolution.
A key aspect of the role is maintaining strong, proactive relationships with Sellafield operations, cyber, safety, engineering and programme governance stakeholders, as well as with external vendors and integrators. The post holder ensures that all technology deployment activity meets the requirements of nuclear safety, security and information governance, identifying and mitigating risks in line with civil nuclear expectations.
Your role
- The Technology Deployment Lead directs the delivery, integration and adoption of digital and technology solutions across operational and corporate areas, ensuring all deployment activity remains safe, compliant and effective within the Sellafield environment. Leading a small digital products and technology team, the post holder sets clear expectations, supports development and wellbeing, and fosters a collaborative, strengths‑based culture grounded in safety, compliance, user focus and delivery excellence.
- A natural collaborator, they bring together colleagues across IT, engineering, operations, cyber and business change, creating an inclusive environment that enables shared problem‑solving and collective accountability. They provide clear direction and coaching, promote curiosity and continuous improvement, and champion user‑centred, operationally meaningful solutions.
- The role requires excellent stakeholder engagement, building trusted relationships with Sellafield stakeholders, programme leads, operational managers and assurance bodies. The post holder adapts communication styles to diverse audiences, anticipates needs and shapes effective change and adoption strategies across a high‑assurance, regulated environment. They maintain strong and proactive engagement with cyber, safety, engineering and governance functions, as well as external vendors and integrators.
- The Technology Deployment Lead drives product deployment and continuous improvement, using operational insight and user feedback to inform enhancements. They ensure users are supported through structured training, communication and transition plans. A strong understanding of the civil nuclear environment is essential, including familiarity with Sellafield's'operational culture, regulatory pressures, nuclear safety principles, cyber constraints, information governance and configuration control. They identify and mitigate risks to ensure all activity aligns with nuclear safety, security and information governance requirements.
