Fostering diversity & inclusion in the modern workplace with Jenifer Pinto

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) in the workplace are both ethical obligations and strategic assets. Several studies over the last decade have shown that diverse teams outperform their more homogeneous counterparts in almost every key metric— including creativity, problem-solving, and financial performance.

Jenifer Pinto, HR Generalist, embodies the importance of ED&I. Today's post explores Jenifer's professional efforts and experiences in cultivating inclusive workplaces, offering valuable insights into fostering diversity and inclusive growth in the corporate world.

Jenifer Pinto's journey to Human Resources

Jenifer Pinto's career starts as she was thriving as a corporate communications and marketing consultant, something told her it wasn't the right fit for her. Two years ago, she realized that her unique combination of strengths in relationship-building, mentoring, and problem-solving made her a perfect fit for Human Resources. After bolstering her skillset with a Bachelor's degree in Finance, a Master's degree in Communications and Marketing, NLP master practitioner courses, and a diploma in psychology, Jenifer smoothly transitioned into HR in the Middle East.

Through various roles at AtkinsRéalis, she's focused on enhancing the employee experience, managing relations, and driving talent development. Her efforts are informed by a diverse array of experiences—both inside and outside the office. Beyond work, Jenifer reads, crochets, hikes, learns new languages, and volunteers for organizations advocating for women's and children's rights and education.

Diversity & inclusion initiatives at AtkinsRéalis

At AtkinsRéalis, diversity is a core value stitched into the organization's fabric. The company initiates various programs intended to create an inclusive environment for their employees, including ED&I training programs, inclusive hiring practices, and support systems like employee resource groups. These initiatives not only uphold cultural diversity, but also champion awareness through various events held throughout the year.

Jenifer has witnessed firsthand the impact of such forward-thinking inclusivity efforts. From implementing mentorship programs within the firm's women's network to the establishment of an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (ED&I) committee actively promoting inclusive policies, AtkinsRéalis walks the talk. Employees not only feel valued, but part of a collective mission that respects and celebrates everyone's unique background, talents, and perspectives. For Jenifer, it's a thrilling spot where her passion for people aligns seamlessly with company goals.

Empowering employees through engagement

Active employee engagement is central to fostering a successful inclusive culture. The first step for employees to create a more equitable workplace is to invest in diversity training oneself. Understanding different perspectives—especially how unconscious bias may inform decision making and behavior—identifies opportunities for improvement and creates meaningful dialogue across teams. Supporting colleagues from diverse backgrounds and advocating for inclusivity within teams promotes a more harmonious and empowered workforce.

Jenifer leads by example. She plays a pivotal role in the company's Lean In program, organizing workshops and facilitated discussions aimed at women's empowerment and their professional journeys. Her contributions help dismantle the proverbial "glass ceiling," providing necessary tools and a support network for women to climb corporate ladders with confidence and competence.

Beyond the Lean-In circles, Jenifer engages with the ME Young Professionals Network, which drives initiatives to promote opportunities for young talent. When asked about these projects, Jenifer mentions both her excitement to diversify the pipeline of entry-level applicants, and her optimism for the future, when the programs' collective impacts will undoubtedly take root.

Collaborate for a shift towards inclusiveness

Jenifer's dedication at AtkinsRéalis highlights the multifaceted efforts required to cultivate a more diverse and inclusive workplace. Her dedication, along with that of the teams, highlights how individual contributions and cohesive company efforts can come together to form a vibrant, inclusive culture.

It's time to make a pivotal shift. Companies should harness the energy of ED&I to not only strengthen their organizational fabric, but to also contribute positively to the wider global narrative.

Join our mission for a more inclusive workplace today. Let's collaboratively build environments where everyone can thrive and where diverse perspectives are celebrated as a powerful advantage.
