AtkinsRéalis Environment has one of the most experienced environmental and geosciences engineering consulting teams in Canada and is currently seeking a Junior Environmental Scientist to join our Fort St John, BC team.  The successful candidate will be responsible for completing fundamental tasks related to Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments and land Reclamation activities, including groundwater monitoring and sampling, remedial excavations, spill response and vegetation assessments. Other technical responsibilities may include subcontractor supervision, project coordination, cost tracking, and report preparation for peer review.

Your role within the team:

  • Historical data review and subsequent site inspections.
  • Groundwater monitoring and sampling.
  • Hydraulic conductivity testing.
  • Surface soil and water sampling.
  • Soil vapour sampling.
  • Supervision of drilling activities.
  • Installation of groundwater monitoring wells.
  • Supervision of remedial excavations.
  • Photographic and written documentation of site activities.
  • Communication with on-site personnel and Project Manager.
  • Assist in communicating and building relationships with clients.
  • Promoting Health and Safety programs and culture.
  • Working as a team with other regions as opportunities arise.

The ideal candidate:

  • Bachelor's degree or technical diploma in environmental science, geoscience, environmental or geological engineering, or another related discipline. Eligibility for professional designation is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated technical skills in field activities related to Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) including groundwater monitoring and sampling techniques, various drilling techniques, soil sample collection and logging, soil vapour sampling, remedial excavations, spill response and quality assurance / quality control protocols.
  • 0 - 3 years of progressive experience encompassing project execution, contractor supervision, and project coordination.
  • Candidates with experience primarily in the upstream oil and gas section are preferred, however, work in multiple settings, both geographically and industrially is considered an asset.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated, high energy, strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Capable of understanding and appropriately applying prescribed safety and technical protocols.
  • Willing to undertake field work year-round and travel throughout Western Canada, at times for extended periods (weeks).
  • Candidates must possess a Valid Class 5 Full driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Expected compensation for this role is (between Pay Range $51,400 - $70,700 annually). Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
