Grads: go where you'll grow!
Hi, I'm Roxy. I've been with AtkinsRéalis since August 2023, when I joined as a graduate engineer. My bachelor's degree was in Safety Engineering in Mainland China. After completing it, I came to Hong Kong for my master's in building services engineering. Following my master's degree, I worked at a pharmaceutical company for two years before joining AtkinsRéalis as a graduate engineer.
I chose AtkinsRéalis because I wanted to continue learning.
I was also attracted to AtkinsRéalis for other reasons. It's an international company with a strong reputation for wellbeing and a youthful culture. I appreciate the presence of senior leaders who are approachable and supportive. They teach and encourage us in a friendly, lighthearted manner. For example, as a fresh graduate, I attended the annual welcome party for newcomers, where we met the directors and our CEO, Wing, who actively engages with and supports junior staff.
Expanding my engineering capabilities
My technical knowledge has grown significantly thanks to guidance from senior colleagues and my manager. This rapid growth has been very satisfying. I also enjoy working with my Mechanical, Engineering, and Plumbing (MEP) team colleagues, where fellow graduate and assistant engineers have taught me valuable lessons.
Making a difference on exciting projects
My core projects include the Island West and Island East Transfer Station Second Follow-On Contract, which I've been involved with since I started, and the Relocation of the Diamond Hill Fresh Water and Saltwater Service Reservoirs to Caverns.
Being supported to succeed
Our mechanical team at MEP is incredibly supportive. I can always rely on my colleagues, including junior team members, to help with any challenges. We regularly discuss design issues, problems, and mistakes in meetings, working together to find solutions. As part of MEP, we coordinate on projects and often gather for team dinners to discuss technical issues and share personal experiences.
We have a great team manager
Despite his busy schedule, Gordon makes time to support junior members, teaching us how to avoid mistakes. He imparts a wealth of knowledge, guides us in problem-solving, and helps lay the groundwork for project design.
Broadening my experience through internal initiatives
I've actively participated in various company activities, like the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) event in March, where I was exposed to many new concepts and ideas. Volunteering at different events has allowed me to collaborate with colleagues from various departments, particularly junior staff, and helped me build friendships across disciplines.
We enjoy having fun and #GivingBack
I volunteered at HKIE's prestigious Hong Kong Engineer Week Carnival, where we showcased engineering applications through interactive activities to inspire young minds and raise awareness about the field. I also volunteered at the IMechE Hong Kong Annual Innovation and Implementation Award, helping to highlight innovative solutions by mechanical engineers in Hong Kong. Additionally, I participated in the International Dragon Boat Championship, where our team earned merit. Beyond these, I take part in stress-relief initiatives like HR-organized ice cream days and massage sessions, which help us unwind, recharge, and maintain our energy levels.
Looking forward to more opportunities ahead
I will be completing HKIE Scheme A Graduate Training (Scheme A) certification, which is an important stage in a graduate's development in becoming a professional engineer. Scheme A is available for all disciplines within the HKIE and operates in different companies and organizations. It is well-recognized and designed as a faster track for a graduate to obtain full HKIE professional status.
