Are you ready to take the next step in your contaminated land career? AtkinsRéalis is seeking a dynamic and motivated Senior/Principal Geo-Environmental Consultant to join our award-winning Contaminated Land & Hydrogeology team within the Sustainable Land and Resource Management Practice.

Based in either our Newcastle or Stockton office (with flexible hybrid working), you will be part of an award-winning group of contaminated land experts delivering innovative brownfield solutions to major UK infrastructure projects.

We are seeking a confident and driven individual with a strong technical background and experienced in a range of projects, working with our experienced staff to deliver excellence to our clients. Our client and project base are highly diverse with current projects in the Energy, Water, Buildings and Places, and Transportation markets in the UK and around the world.

Your role

  • Providing technical guidance, constructive support and mentoring to junior staff and supporting their technical development.
  • Provide technical input and delivery of contaminated land projects/geo-environmental aspects of multi‑disciplinary projects.
  • Project management and technical delivery of a wide variety of projects including management of finances, and programme delivery.
  • Organising, managing, and checking of site work.
  • Liaison with clients, stakeholders, regulators, sub‑contractors and other internal disciplines.
  • Supporting senior management in developing new business and clients to win work and preparation of commercial offers.
  • Leading on the development of H&S Plans for site investigations and managing health and safety during site works.
  • Developing own competence and maintaining CPD necessary to fulfil the responsibilities of the role, with support from the business on own training and development needs.

About you

  • Higher education qualification in a relevant engineering or science subject (e.g. geology, geography, hydrogeology, chemistry, earth sciences, environmental science).
  • Chartered Membership of relevant professional body (if not Chartered, we would expect the candidate, with our support, to become chartered within 6 to 12 months after joining).
  • Relevant post-graduate experience (ideally within a consultancy environment) with a strong technical, people and project management skillset and a track record in winning and delivering high-profile work.
  • Substantial demonstrable experience as a geo-environmental consultant within consultancy, industry, regulatory or academic fields with a track record in delivering work, client management and stakeholder liaison.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding, including ability to complete proposals/tenders.
  • Demonstrable understanding of UK environmental and regulatory framework.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Demonstrable experience of software packages such as OpenGround and QGIS.
  • Be a digital innovator: experience of handing large data sets, developing graphic representations of data or finding new digital ways of working.
  • Skills in GIS and computer programming, and knowledge of engineering geology/hydrogeology would be advantageous.
