Tell us a bit about yourself?

My career journey at AtkinsRéalis started in 2017 where I was employed as a technician in Qatar Energy (formerly Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiyah District - QPD) and then I got promoted as Senior Technician.

I am from Mawanella, Sri Lanka, and I am the fourth child in my family. I have three children, and my wife is working in Sri Lanka emigration. My father is my main inspiration as he was a police officer and growing up I saw how he handed complex situations and that directly and indirectly helped me in many situations.

The image shows a man with short curly hair and a beard, sitting indoors and wearing a light striped button-up shirt with a small logo. He’s looking at the camera with a slight smile.

How would you describe a day at AtkinsRéalis as a Senior Technician?

A typical day as a senior technician is very busy, but full of interesting situations. What makes it interesting is working with junior technicians, helping them gain knowledge, and sharing my experience with them.

How did you become a technician? and what advice would you give to someone who is interested in this field?

Ever since I was young, I was interested and eager to learn about machinery and the related components. That interest led me to become a technician. My advice to anyone who's interested in becoming a technician, is to focus on their technical education and gain practical knowledge in the field. This will be beneficial once you are on site and can help your performance and career growth.

What is the best part in being a supervisor?

There isn't one answer, as there are many parts I really enjoy, but what makes a good supervisor is leading and advising a group of people in an effective manner. I like to understand the abilities and shortcomings of my team in order to achieve a common goal which is getting a good outcome as a result of their hard work.

You manage 40+ employees, how do you manage such a large number of employees?

Of course, managing a large number of employees is not an easy task, but what really helped me, is my experience and knowledge obtained throughout the years. I also show a great interest in sharing my knowledge and experience with the team.

We heard a lot about your great work ethics, discipline, and your willingness to support others. How can you maintain such a positive attitude at work?

Working in a positive environment such as AtkinsRéalis has influenced me to bring out my best. In addition, those who work under my supervision play a key role in my success, as a collaborative team effort where the support comes from both sides.

How do you overcome challenges in the workplace?

I truly believe that patience is the key element, which always helps me overcome any challenges.

What piece of advice could you give to the younger generation?

My advice would be to focus on your dreams and work hard to reach them. Remember that hard work never goes unnoticed.
