How I mix flexible working and family to thrive as a leader in the Nuclear New Build team.

Hello, I'm Sudhapriya. I joined AtkinsRéalis in mid-2017 as contract staff on the Transportation team. After spending a year as a contractor, I moved to the New Nuclear Build team, where I started in a permanent position as a checker, reviewing and verifying the accuracy and quality of technical drawings. Over time, I took on more responsibility, leading the team in checking and reviewing models. Now, I manage the resources in the CANDU team, overseeing around 35 people.

Progressing my career on fantastic projects

I've worked on a wide range of projects. While on the Transportation team, I contributed to projects like Colombo Port City (bridges, highways, and landscape). After joining the New Nuclear Build team, I worked on Hinkley Point C, Beckton, Bridgewater Tidal Barrier, Fulham Depot, FCDO Abuja, New Energy Plant Grangemouth, Richmond Upon Thames College, Woodlands Meed College, Alconbury Education Campus, Curry Moor, Bishopsgate, Harnham Gyratory, and various defence projects.

Living my best flexible life at AtkinsRéalis

I'm a married woman with a daughter. At AtkinsRéalis, I find managing my work/life balance easier than in other organizations I've worked with over my 15-year career. I can spend more time with my family here, which is a real plus. Even with tight schedules, I can manage things without overworking myself or my team on weekends. For example, this year, I completed my mechanical engineering degree. And whenever I need leave for personal matters, my leave application is granted without any hassle. There's always support from my line managers and the company when it comes to taking time off when it's needed most.

I lead a talented and supportive team

I have a fantastic team. We work in a very diverse, open, and collaborative environment, sharing everything we need without any sense of hierarchy. Instead of a top-down approach, we operate as equals, focusing on teamwork and mutual support. This collaborative spirit is vital to our success and helps us achieve our goals effectively.

Even when we face tight deadlines, the team remains supportive and committed. As the team leader, I ensure our tasks are completed on time and we can meet our deadlines without unnecessary pressure or stress. My manager is equally supportive. Together, we maintain a positive, pressure-free work environment. This approach allows us to meet our targets while keeping morale high and stress levels low.
